RCA retiree enjoyed reading the Bible

Melba J. Powers, 88, of Houston, died Saturday, December 28, 2013, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.

She was born May 14, 1925, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Lester and Eunice Thomas Chivers.

Mrs. Powers had worked for over 20 years for RCA in Canonsburg and Meadow Lands, retiring in 1981.

She was a member of Central Assembly of God in Houston and Washington Presbyterian Church where she had taught Sunday school in both churches.

Mrs. Powers was an avid Bible reader.

She is preceded in death by her husband, David Powers.

Surviving are a daughter, Paula McPeake of Florence, Ky.; two grandchildren, Robert McPeake of Florence and Cyndi Nieto of Los Angeles, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan McPeake and Antonio and Christian Nieto.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of service, Monday, December 30, in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342, with the Rev. Todd Stemple officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.
