Avid sports fan served in Air Force

Harry A. Cox Jr., 82, of Elyria, Ohio, died Friday, December 27, 2013, in Kingston of Vermilion, Vermilion, Ohio.

He was born March 4, 1931, in Canonsburg.

Mr. Cox came to the Elyria area in 1962. He was most recently a resident of The Abbewood.

He served with the United States Air Force and was a supervisor for Federal Aviation Administration in Oberlin.

Mr. Cox was a member of St. Jude Church, Alcoholics Anonymous since 1986, the American Legion Post 12 and NARFE.

He was an avid sports fan, particularly enjoying the Pittsburg Steelers, Pirates and Penguins.

Surviving are a daughter, Pamela (Eric) Miller of Lorain, Ohio; a sister, Diana Cochran of Clarksburg, Md.; a sister-in-law, Frances Cox of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are his wife, Dolores J. Grillo Cox in 2011, and a brother, David Cox.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 3, with the Rev. Frank P. Kosem officiating. Entombment will be held in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, Ohio. Full military honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1079.

Elizabeth Hartwick, 96, of Youngsville, died at 8 a.m. Sunday, December 29, 2013, in Rouse Nursing Home.

Beloved wife, loving mother

Carolyn Marcanio, 82, of McMurray, died Saturday, December 28, 2013.

She was the beloved wife of the late Mario Marcanio; loving mother of Christine (Dan) Romance, Michael (Nancy) Marcanio, Joseph Marcanio, Natalie (Ed Benelli) Marcanio, Patrick (Kelley) Marcanio and Peter (Mary) Marcanio; cherished grandmother of Matthew Romance, Rachel Prosser and Laura Romance, Peter, John, and Olivia Marcanio, Michael, Bradley and Morgan Marcanio and Madalyn and Victoria and Vanessa Marcanio; and treasured great-grandmother of Pace, Coral and Bryn Prosser.

Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and countless friends.

Deceased are nine siblings.

Mrs. Marcanio dedicated her life to her family and had a lifelong commitment to learning, education and positive attitude. She obtained her master’s degree in 1994.

She enjoyed gardening and was an avid writer of family stories and personal histories.

Friends welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 3, in Trinity United Methodist Church, 530 Center Church Road, McMurray, PA 15317. Interment will be held in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.

Deeply devoted to family

Mildred Irene Hyatt Marcolini, 84, of Low Hill, died Saturday, December 28, 2013, in her home, surrounded by family.

She was born January 26, 1929, in Denbo, a daughter of the late John Calvin and Helen Gail Everly Hyatt.

Mrs. Marcolini was known as “Midge” to her family and friends.

She was a 1947 graduate of Centerville High School, where she was a member of the band.

After graduation, she was employed as a secretary at Centerville High School and later worked at First National Bank in Brownsville. She also worked as a teacher’s aid for Bethlehem-Center School District in the 1970s.

Mrs. Marcolini was married for 43 years to Samuel F. Marcolini, who died February 27, 1993. Together, they had 10 children.

She was deeply devoted to her family and enjoyed singing, gardening, sewing and needlework.

Surviving are children Patricia Pagac of Malden Drive, Carol Dykstra of Pittsburgh, Joyce Liptak and husband Joe of Greensburg, Samuel Marcolini and wife Leann of Fredericktown, Gayle Richardson and husband Jim of Florida, Cheryl Corazzi of Fallowfield Township, Scott Marcolini of Low Hill, Brenda Gibson of Pittsburgh, Beth Sprague and husband Dave of Florida and Marcia Hoover and husband Douglas of Malden; 15 grandchildren, Joren and Brandt Dykstra, Justin and Brittany Marcolini, Benjamin Richardson, Deno Corazzi, Aubrey Marcolini, Caitlin Berczik, David Sprague Jr., Allyson, Bradley, Carissa and Eric Sprague and Douglas and Jonathan Hoover; six great-grandchildren, Sara Corazzi, Kaylen (Marcolini) Cerett, Alyssa Sprague, David Sprague III and Lydia and Isla Dykstra; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, is a sister, Norma Somales.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday January 2, with Pastor Ken Custer officiating. Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill.

Former CNA enjoyed camping

Cynthia Lou McWhorter, 50, of Washington, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 28, 2013, in UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh.

She was born October 13, 1963, in Washington, a daughter of the late Cecil H. and Bonnie L. Hartley Jackson.

Mrs. McWhorter was a 1981 graduate of Trinity High School.

She worked as a certified nursing assistant at Washington Hospital for 14 years.

Mrs. McWhorter enjoyed camping, drawing and her dogs and cat.

On April 5, 1986, she married Russell “Rusty” McWhorter, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Tad James McWhorter; a daughter, Kiley Elizabeth McWhorter; two brothers, Richard Jackson and Scott A. Jackson, all of Washington; two sisters, Corlea Jackson Ware of Washington and Sandra K. Sayre of Bentleyville; and several nieces and nephews.

Enjoyed cooking, watching football

Mary Ann Vignoli, 69, of New Eagle, died unexpectedly Friday, December 27, 2013, in Monongahela Valley Hospital.

She was born March 4, 1944, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of George Corbin Sr., of Finleyville, and the late Bertha Kozak Corbin.

Mrs. Vignoli was a 1962 graduate of Monongahela High School.

She was Catholic.

For several years, she was employed as a custodian by Ringgold School District, retiring in 2001.

Mrs. Vignoli was a member of the Hoot Owl Athletic Association in New Eagle and Slovak Club in Monongahela.

She enjoyed bingo, cooking and watching football, especially the Steelers.

Surviving, in addition to her father, are two daughters and two sons, Isla Wall of Monongahela and fiance Ray Bianchi of New Eagle; Arthur Fine at home; Gary Fine and wife Nancy of New Eagle; and Michelle Cafasso and husband Bruce of Ansonia, Conn.; a stepson, Philip “Randy” Vignoli of Carroll Township; a step daughter-in-law, Judy Vignoli of New Eagle; 11 grandchildren, Billy and Sandie Gerba, Lovey Vignoli, James Schock, Rae Lynn Bianchi, Brittany Kearns and husband Trevor, Bryan Vignoli, David Fine, Gary Fine and fiance Renee Smith and Dane and Katie Schock; two great-grandsons, Alex Kearns and Devin Sitte; a brother, George Corbin and wife Billie of New Eagle; a sister, Rose Belak of McDonald; and several nieces.

She leaves behind her beloved kitty, Misty.

Deceased, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Philip Vignoli Jr., who died February 15, 2011; a son, David Michael Fine; and a stepson, Gene Vignoli.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela, where services will be held at noon Thursday, January 2, with the Pastor Douglas Kearns officiating. Committal services and interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela.
