Mine safety engineer enjoyed square dancing

Charles E. Hall, 92, of Cheswick and formerly of Greensboro (Mapletown), died at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, December, 28, 2013, in Amber Woods at Harmar Village, Cheswick.

He was born September 4, 1921, in Harwick, a son of the late Harry Lee and Etta Mae Fletcher Hall.

Mr. Hall was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and was a member of Mapletown United Methodist Church.

He served with the U.S. Army Air Forces with the 66th Troop Carrier Squadron in the Southwest Pacific during World War II. Mr. Hall took part in more than 50 missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in recognition of his courageous service to his combat organization, fellow American airmen and his country.

Mr. Hall enjoyed square dancing and traveling with his wife, Pearl.

He worked as a mine safety engineer at the former Duquesne Light Warwick Mine, retiring in 1986.

Mr. Hall was a member of Pollock Lodge 512, F&AM, Tarentum, Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Pittsburgh, Syria Temple, AAONMS, Caravan 9, Uniontown, and Legion of Honor at Syria Temple.

On July 27, 1953, he married Pearl C. Miller, who died April 11, 2006.

Surviving are a sister, Hilda Marie Suity of Harwick, and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are four brothers, Harry Lee Hall, William Paul Hall, Frank McDowell Hall and John C. Hall; and two sisters, Marietta Buterbaugh and Emma Louise McSparrin.

Family and friends are welcome from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Yoskovich Funeral Home, 724-966-5500, Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street, Route 88, Carmichaels, where the funeral service will take place at noon Friday, January 3, with the Rev. Steve Wilso officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Cumberland American Legion Post 400, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491 and the U.S. Air Force following the service. Private interment will take place in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township. Valley Lodge 459, F&AM, will conduct Masonic services at 6 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
