Former teacher was Coca-Cola sales rep
James Ronald West, 90, of Ocoee, Fla., died at 3 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013, in Adventist Care Center Courtland, Orlando, Fla.
He was born Sunday, August 26, 1923, in Brave, a son of the late Hal E. West and Georgia Cole West.
Mr. West was a member of Montverde (Fla.) United Methodist Church.
He was a member of IOOF Lodge 469 for more than 60 years and F&AM Masonic Lodge 237 and Syria Temple, AAONMS, for more than 45 years. For more than 50 years, he was a member of United Commercial Travelers. Mr. West was a member and past president of National Council of State Consultants of Elementary Education. In 1952, he won the national sales award from Coca-Cola Co. and, in 1990, the distinguished educator achievement award by the Southern Association of Colleges.
He worked for Waynesburg and Washington Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Pennsylvania for 16 years and was a teacher in Washington County for six years. He was coordinator of ESEA Title III Project in South Carolina and was unit coordinator for South Carolina State Department of Education for 14 years. For 10 years, he was coordinator for the Summer Institute for School Principals. Mr. West retired in 1987.
His wife, Louise Coyle West, whom he married June 1, 1946, survives.
Also surviving are a son, Dennis West, of Ocoee; three grandchildren, Erin West-Pinto, Laine West and Eric West; two sisters, Patricia Pettit of Glennville, N.Y., and Betty Inghram of Rogersville; a brother, Harold West of Lorain, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sisters, Shirley West and LeAnna Udodow; and two brothers, Paul West and LeRoy Caine.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon, the time of service, Saturday, January 4, in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, with Pastor Thalia Mae Fleetwood officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township.
