Piper Lynne Barnhart, infant daughter of Cody Lee and Rachel Marie Stoneking Barnhart of West Finley, was born and died Sunday, December 29, 2013, in Washington Hospital.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are maternal grandparents Craig and Kimberly Montgomery Stoneking of Garrison; paternal grandparents Harry and Bobbi Jo Barnhart Chambers of Wind Ridge; maternal great-grandparents Larry and Jeannie Hooper Stoneking of New Freeport and Ronald and Cynthia Hughes Montgomery of Waynesburg; maternal great-great-grandmother Naomi Stoneking of New Freeport; an aunt, Amanda, wife of Josh Anderson; and two uncles, Matt Stoneking and Austin Barnhart.
Deceased are a brother, Jace Lee Barnhart; maternal great-grandfather Wilson Stoneking; and paternal great-grandparents Glenn and Shirley Hixenbaugh Chambers.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Homemaker had passion for her flowers, pets
Frances Clister, 91, of Carmichaels, died Monday, December 30, 2013, in Golden Living Center, Waynesburg.
Mrs. Clister was born in Carmichaels March 25, 1922, a daughter of the late Flenniken and Catherine Evans Clark.
Surviving are three children, Sandra Lee McDermott (Barry) of Carmichaels, William Clister (Shuha) of Katy, Texas, and Darwin Clister (Elizabeth) of Carmichaels; three grandchildren, Colin Clister of Carmichaels, Shanna Clister of Canton, Ga., and Richard Clister of Katy; and a sister, Dorothy Harris of Cabot, Ark.
Deceased are her husband, Sanford G. Clister, and a sister, Marie Nicholson.
Frances was a full-time homemaker and an avid gardener.
Her passion in life was her flowers and her pets.

NRA member enjoyed working with dogs
Bart A. Fleischmann, 58, of Canonsburg, died Monday, December 30, 2013, in his home.
He was born August 18, 1955, in Bayshore, Long Island, N.Y., a son of Emil Gene and Joan Augusta Graff Fleischmann.
Mr. Fleischmann was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Bridgeville.
He was a member of National Rifle Association, enjoyed working with dogs and was very handy at woodworking.
Mr. Fleischmann worked in millwork and sales for Lowes, Washington.
Surviving are his parents, Gene and Joan Fleischmann of Canonsburg; wife Victoria Fleischmann and three children, Brent, Bryant and Brooke Fleischmann, all of Midlothian, Va.; four brothers, Bruce (Cindy) Fleischmann of Daytona Beach, Fla., Barry (Susan) Fleischmann of Mt. Lebanon, Brian (Linda) Fleischmann of Delmont and Bret (Marjorie) Fleischmann of Bethel Park; and several nieces and nephews.
At his family’s request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 3, in Zion Lutheran Church, 3197 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, with Pastor Duncan McClellen officiating.
Mine safety engineer enjoyed square dancing
Charles E. Hall, 92, of Cheswick and formerly of Greensboro (Mapletown), died at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, December, 28, 2013, in Amber Woods at Harmar Village, Cheswick.
He was born September 4, 1921, in Harwick, a son of the late Harry Lee and Etta Mae Fletcher Hall.
Mr. Hall was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and was a member of Mapletown United Methodist Church.
He served with the U.S. Army Air Forces with the 66th Troop Carrier Squadron in the Southwest Pacific during World War II. Mr. Hall took part in more than 50 missions and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in recognition of his courageous service to his combat organization, fellow American airmen and his country.
Mr. Hall enjoyed square dancing and traveling with his wife, Pearl.
He worked as a mine safety engineer at the former Duquesne Light Warwick Mine, retiring in 1986.
Mr. Hall was a member of Pollock Lodge 512, F&AM, Tarentum, Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Pittsburgh, Syria Temple, AAONMS, Caravan 9, Uniontown, and Legion of Honor at Syria Temple.
On July 27, 1953, he married Pearl C. Miller, who died April 11, 2006.
Surviving are a sister, Hilda Marie Suity of Harwick, and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers, Harry Lee Hall, William Paul Hall, Frank McDowell Hall and John C. Hall; and two sisters, Marietta Buterbaugh and Emma Louise McSparrin.

Elizabeth Rogan Hartwick, 96, of Youngsville, formerly of Greene County, died at 8 a.m. Sunday, December 29, 2013, in Rouse Nursing Home, Youngsville.
She was born Saturday, January 20, 1917, in Davistown, a daughter of the late William Cowell and Ida Rose Beall Cowell.
Mrs. Hartwick was Methodist.
She enjoyed shopping and was a homemaker.
Her first husband, Andrew Rogan, and her second husband, Emanuel Hartwick, are deceased.
Surviving are two sons, Mitchell William (Germaine) Rogan of Fresno, Calif., and Ronald Andrew (Cathy) Rogan of East Liverpool, Ohio; a son-in-law, Paul Cree of Warren; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the last of her immediate family.
Deceased are a daughter, Peggy Rogan Cree; a son, Timothy Andrew Rogan, who died in infancy; four sisters, Lela Cowell, Pearl Honsaker, Madeline Garrison and Jenna West; and three brothers, Kenneth Cowell, Rolland Cowell and John Cowell.

Charlotte Henderson, 68, of Mt. Morris, died at 11 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

Worked in family’s Brookwood Nursery
Ronald M. Hostovich, 71, of Monongahela, Carroll Township, died Monday, December 30, 2013, in Donnell House Hospice Center, Washington.
He was born June 28, 1942, in Peters Township, a son of Michael A. and Irene Hajnos Hostovich.
At the age of 11, he began working at the family business, Brookwood Nursery and Landscaping in Peters Township. As he began to take the business over, he moved it to Carroll Township, where he continued to run it until his health made him retire in December 2011.
Mr. Hostovich was a graduate of the former South Hills Catholic High School and was Catholic.
Even after his retirement, he enjoyed raising horses. He was a member of Quarter Horses Association and a former member of Western PA Roping Association.
Surviving are sons Dean Hostovich (Kathy Retrosi) of Peters Township and Ronald D. and Shannon Hostovich of Charleroi; a brother, Michael and wife Elaine Hostovich of Warren; a sister, Georgiann Stegenga of Eighty Four; and two grandsons, Dane and Zachary Hostovich, who were greatly influenced by him.
He also leaves behind his loving dog, Hank.
His wife, Ann M. “Dolly” Hostovich, died May 24, 2009.

Glider pilot also enjoyed sailing
Warren Wendell Johnson, 93, of Washington, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2013.
He was born December 7, 1920, in Minneapolis, Minn., a son of the late Adelaid and Wilbur Johnson.
He was a graduate of Michigan Technological University with a bachelor’s degree in mining and engineering.
Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Saturn.
After retirement from Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, he pursued many hobbies and passions. He earned his glider pilot’s license and enjoyed taking family and friends on a soaring experience. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed many sailing trips to the Chesapeake Bay area, British Virgin Islands, Lake Michigan and Adriatic Sea off the coast of Albania. Golf and skiing were also a passion for many years.
Mr. Johnson was a Mason, former member of Trinity United Methodist Church in McMurray and a current member of First United Methodist Church in Washington.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn, whom he married April 15, 1944.
Also surviving are three children, Judy Kent of Wakefield, R.I., Jeff Johnson of Chandler, Ariz., and Janet Novelli of Littleton, Colo.; three grandchildren, Stephanie Anderson, Shanna Johnson and Christopher Musso; and two great-grandchildren, Dominic Musso and Braden Anderson.
He will be sadly missed by family and friends, who will cherish many wonderful memories.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 10, in Presbyterian SeniorCare Chapel, 835 South Main Street, Washington. Flowers may be sent to the chapel or, in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be sent to First United Methodist Church, 29 North College Street, Washington PA 15301, for its building fund. A light luncheon will be served following the service at the chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.

Elrama VFC assistant chief served in the U.S. Army
Carl Victor “Vic” Lewis, 77, of Elrama, Union Township, died Sunday, December 29, 2013.
He was born December 30, 1935, in Elizabeth Township, a son of James Calvin Lewis and G. Ruth Karnes Lewis.
Mr. Lewis served in the U.S. Army.
He was retired from Westinghouse Electric Corp., Kellogg Rust and Nash Kinema.
Mr. Lewis was a life member and served as assistant chief and trustee of Elrama Volunteer Fire Company, life member of Elrama Sportsman’s Club and member of F&AM Stephen Bayard Lodge 526 in Elizabeth.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his wife of 52 years, Jacqueline Dorothy (Randy Randolph) Lewis, and a sister, Katherine (the late James) Bedell, formerly of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Surviving are two sons, James Calvin Lewis Sr. and wife Suzan Hardinger Lewis of Monongahela and Jack Carl Lewis and wife Judy Cunning Lewis of Buena Vista; two daughters, Joyce Carlene and husband Vladimi Kiritchenko of Coraopolis and Jodie Carla and husband Alan Olszewski of Belle Vernon; seven grandsons, James Calvin Lewis Jr., Jared Allan Lewis, Jacob Andrew Lewis, Viktor Kiritchenko, Lambert Edmund Olszewski, Jesse James Lewis and Justin Jack Lewis; three granddaughters, Sarah Jean O’Brien, Kristina Kiritchenko and Jenna Mae Lewis; four stepgrandchildren, Alan George Olszewski, Aaron Frank Olszewski, Shayla Cunning-Lewis and Shane Cunning-Lewis; and many nieces, nephew and cousins.

1941 – 2013
John Anthony Maczuzak, 72, died suddenly Friday, December 27, 2013, following a brief illness. He last resided in Freedom.
He was born in Ellsworth, son of Peter and Catherine Maczuzak.
An avid athlete, he was awarded a football scholarship in 1959 to attend the University of Pittsburgh, where he also played basketball. He was a member of Pitt’s 1963 famed “No Bowl” football team before being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs the following year. After one season, he returned to finish his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Pitt, after which he joined the National Works of U.S. Steel in McKeesport.
During his 31 years with U.S. Steel, he held several management positions, including general manager of U.S. Steel Fairless Works in Fairless Hills and vice president of operations of U.S. Steel/Kobe in Lorain, Ohio. He left U.S. Steel in 1996 and soon thereafter was appointed president and chief operating officer of National Steel Corp. at its Mishawaka, Ind., headquarters. He stayed at National Steel until its acquisition by U.S. Steel in 2003, after which he retired to Western Pennsylvania.
His wife of 42 years, Janet Hamilton Maczuzak, is deceased.
Surviving are a daughter, Amy of Pittsburgh; a son, John David, a daughter-in-law, Cindy, and a granddaughter, Kathryn, all of North Huntingdon; and a son, Vern of New York, N.Y.
Also surviving are his companion, Rose Marie Wintermantel; three brothers; four sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

Freda Irene Szotkowski, 89, of Washington, died Monday, December 30, 2013, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.
She was born January 15, 1924, in Pleasant Grove, a daughter of Harry Guy Ross and Lorena Worrell Ross.
Mrs. Szotkowski worked for many years at Henderson Avenue Foodland, which was her family’s business.
She was a member of Third United Presbyterian Church and the Elks.
Mrs. Szotkowski enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed traveling after her retirement.
On January 5, 1947, she married Henry Stanley Szotkowski, who died September 1, 2010.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandy Gareis of Bulger and Sharon (Harold) Shrum of Toms River, N.J.; a sister, Jean Silvers; three grandchildren, Brad Garris, Holly Kerwin and Heather Malloy; and five great-grandchildren, Brian, Jake, Samantha, Lina and Paddy.
Deceased are a brother, Delmar Ross, and a sister, Lucille Ewing.

James R. Waychoff Jr., 40, of Washington, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013, in an automobile accident.
He was born April 27, 1973, in Washington, a son of James R. Sr. and Dorothy J. Waychoff.
Mr. Waychoff was the beloved son of James R. (Connie) Waychoff Sr. and Dorothy J. (William) Wise Milligan; cherished fiancé of Shannon McKinney; dear father of Zachary and Ashlyn; dear brother of William Lemmon and Traci (James) Skolyak; and dear uncle of Brittany and Brandon Naraskivitch.
As an employee of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, he was a hard worker. He was a very caring person and a great dad and son. Most of all, he was Ashlyn’s best friend and hero. He enjoyed his Thursday night bowling league with his father.
He was an all-around good person, who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Former teacher was Coca-Cola sales rep
James Ronald West, 90, of Ocoee, Fla., died at 3 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013, in Adventist Care Center Courtland, Orlando, Fla.
He was born Sunday, August 26, 1923, in Brave, a son of the late Hal E. West and Georgia Cole West.
Mr. West was a member of Montverde (Fla.) United Methodist Church.
He was a member of IOOF Lodge 469 for more than 60 years and F&AM Masonic Lodge 237 and Syria Temple, AAONMS, for more than 45 years. For more than 50 years, he was a member of United Commercial Travelers. Mr. West was a member and past president of National Council of State Consultants of Elementary Education. In 1952, he won the national sales award from Coca-Cola Co. and, in 1990, the distinguished educator achievement award by the Southern Association of Colleges.
He worked for Waynesburg and Washington Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Pennsylvania for 16 years and was a teacher in Washington County for six years. He was coordinator of ESEA Title III Project in South Carolina and was unit coordinator for South Carolina State Department of Education for 14 years. For 10 years, he was coordinator for the Summer Institute for School Principals. Mr. West retired in 1987.
His wife, Louise Coyle West, whom he married June 1, 1946, survives.
Also surviving are a son, Dennis West, of Ocoee; three grandchildren, Erin West-Pinto, Laine West and Eric West; two sisters, Patricia Pettit of Glennville, N.Y., and Betty Inghram of Rogersville; a brother, Harold West of Lorain, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sisters, Shirley West and LeAnna Udodow; and two brothers, Paul West and LeRoy Caine.
