Anthony Raymond Kucic, 94, of Burgettstown, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013, in Strabane Woods of Washington.
He was born on November 14, 1918, in Burgettstown, a son of the late Marko Sr., and Katherine Simoncic Kucic.
He was a lifelong resident of Burgettstown before moving to Strabane Woods Assisted Living.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 94th Infantry in Europe. While in Germany, Mr. Kucic was captured and remained a Prisoner of War until the war ended. He was honorably discharged and received the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze stars and the World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Kucic retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel.
He enjoyed getting together with other retirees for monthly breakfast meetings. His lifelong hobby was raising and racing pigeons. He was a member of the Chartiers Pigeon Club, the Burgettstown VFW, Slovenian Club, SNPJ Lodge, KSKJ Lodge, Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church and the Burgettstown Senior Citizens Association.
He was married to his loving wife, Brancia Muskovich, on October 27, 1941, in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church. They were married for 68 years until she unexpectedly passed away May 20, 2009.
Mr. Kucic is survived by two daughters, Antoinette Kowalewski and her husband, Stanley, of Canonsburg and Frances Jean Kucic of San Carlos, Calif.; two sons, William J. Kucic of Ashland, Ohio, and Joseph R. Kucic and his wife, Diane, of North Aurora, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Frances Reed of Winter Haven, Fla.
He is preceded in death, in addition to his parents and wife, by three brothers, Marko Jr., John and Joseph Kucic.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 1, in the Lee & Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 2, in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Burgettstown. Interment with full military honors accorded by the U.S. Army and the Slovan VFW Honor Guard will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
