Hope Addy Packard died Saturday, February 2, 2013.
She was born in 1923 in Mangham, La., a daughter of Thomas Sim Addy and Maurea Williams. She grew up in Chunky, Miss., and later in Texas and Louisiana.
During World War II, she worked as a riveter in an airplane factory and later as a mapper at the National Weather Service in New Orleans, La., before marrying Fred Packard, then a pilot and aerial photographer, in 1951.
Mrs. Packard credited her high school English teacher in Chunky for her lifelong love of reading and books. She played bridge with the Oakhurst, Kings and Peters Township Library bridge groups.
A longtime and prolific quilter, she was a member of Martha Washington Quilter’s Guild. She was a member of Center Presbyterian Church and its Mary Martha Circle.
Her husband, Fred Packard, love of her life, companion and husband for 53 years, died in 2004.
Surviving are a sister, June Marshall; two daughters, Janet Packard and Kathy Packard; a son, Woody Packard; and Shelly Clifford and Judy Emerson and their children and grandchildren.
In her life, she was grateful for her many friends, and the help and support they gave her. She will be missed by Marian Rhodes, her bridge partner for more than 60 years, and many others who appreciated her generosity, candor and enthusiasm for life and friendship.
