Donald H. Sprowls
Donald H. Sprowls, 74, of Seminole, Fla., passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013, in his home under the care of hospice and family.
He was born March 23, 1938, in Washington, a son of the late Donald E. Sprowls and Edna Mae Donnelly Sprowls.
Mr. Sprowls was a 1955 Trinity High School graduate.
He retired as a lieutenant for the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., where he served from 1960 to 1980. His second retirement was from the Hilton Corp., having served as head of security for the Washington, D.C., Hilton Hotel.
Mr. Sprowls was a member of Association of Retired Police Officers and served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1959.
Surviving are his wife, Cracker Holton-Sprowls; a brother, James Sprowls and wife Marlyn; stepdaughters Jean Mullins and Sue Holton; stepson Bryan Holton; stepgrandchildren John and Michelle Mullins; nieces Rhea Arledge and husband John and Dawn Dann and husband Rich; great-nephew Ricky Dann; great-niece Nicole Arledge; and cousin Patricia Mounts of Washington.
A memorial service was held in Garden Sanctuary Funeral Home, 7950 1st Street, Seminole, FL 33776, 727-391-0121. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to SunCoast Hospice Foundation, 5771 Roosevelt Boulevard, Clearwater, FL 33760.
