Mildred J. Phillips

Mildred J. Phillips, 89, of Spraggs, died at 5 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

She was born Tuesday, October 23, 1923, in Spraggs, a daughter of the late Isaac Phillips and Laura Park Phillips. Mrs. Phillips spent her entire life in Spraggs.

Mrs. Phillips was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Waynesburg. She also was a member of Spraggs United Methodist Church prayer group.

She enjoyed reading her Bible and taking rides in her golf cart. Mrs. Phillips especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

For several years, she was a clerk at the former G.C. Murphy’s in Waynesburg and later was a receptionist at West Virginia University in Morgantown. She retired when she was 80 years old and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Ernest Jae Phillips, whom she married October 26, 1944, died September 4, 1982.

Surviving are four daughters, JoAnn Booth of Berlin, Edye D’Eletto of Waynesburg, Jeannie Phillips of Morgantown and Barbara (Albert) Simpson of Spraggs; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice (Richard) McCray of Fairview, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are three brothers, Reason, Carl and Edward Phillips.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, February 18, with the Rev. John Poling officiating. Burial will be in Phillips Cemetery, Wayne Township, Greene County. Information is available at www.milliken-throckmortonfh.com.
