Robert J. Tarbet

Robert J. Tarbet, 91, of Waynesburg, formerly of New Freeport, died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2013, in Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg, following a one-month illness.

He was born October 1, 1921, in Clarksburg, W.Va., a son of the late Robert Eaton and Elizabeth Ellen Crahn Tarbet and had resided in the Waynesburg area since 1944.

Mr. Tarbet was a member of the Church of Christ in New Freeport.

He was employed by the former Equitable Gas Co. for more than 43 years, retiring October 1, 1983, as the chief engineer at the Rogersville station. Following retirement, he was employed by the former Kenny Stewart and John Howard Motors for 12 years. He had also served as a justice of the peace for 12 years.

Mr. Tarbet enjoyed hunting, as long as his health permitted.

On February 14, 1979, he married Lois Ruth Bonar Mason, who died September 7, 2009.

Surviving are two stepchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, William, husband of Delgreta Tarbet of West Union, W.Va.; and a sister, Catherine Brown of Glen Dale, W.Va.

He also leaves his dog and best friend, Jack.

Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are six sisters.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation or funeral services. Interment will be private. All arrangements are under the direction of Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville. Family and friends may view the obituary and send condolences at www.rushfuneralhomeinc.com.
