Harry Hess

Harry Hess, 85, of McKeesport, died Friday, February 15, 2013.

He was born July 17, 1927, in McKeesport, a son of the late John and Margaret McNamee Hess.

Mr. Hess served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 1st Infantry Division, the “Big Red One,” and was a special guard during the Nuremberg Trials.

He retired from U.S. Steel.

Mr. Hess was a loyal fan of McKeesport and Serra Catholic football and basketball, coached and supported New Eagle youth baseball and soccer for many years and was a former volunteer fireman.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Virginia Godek Hess; daughters Beverly (Gary) Anselmino of New Eagle and Christine (Bruce) Davis of Wyano; grandchildren Felicia (Tim) Baird, Philip (Jessica) Anselmino, Mathew (Rose) Anselmino, Michael Davis, Kathleen Davis and Amy Davis; and great-grandchildren Andrew Baird, Marco Anselmino, Lorenzo Anselmino and Cora Anselmino.

He was expecting the birth of three great-grandchildren.

Deceased are his siblings, John D., Charles, Albert and infants Katherine and Virginia.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Strifflers of White Oak Cremation & Mortuary Services, 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, Sue Striffler Galaski, supervisor, 412-678-6177. A Mass will be held at noon Tuesday, February 19, in Corpus Christi Church, McKeesport. Burial to follow in St. Mary’s Polish Cemetery.
