Sarah F. Nackoul
Sarah F. “Sally” Nackoul, 88, of Washington, formerly of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Monday, February 18, 2013, in her home, surrounded by family and friends.
She was born February 17, 1925, in Blackford County, Ind., a daughter of Frank and Lucy Zolli. She lived a majority of her life on Brown Alley in Canonsburg and spent her final years in Washington.
Mrs. Nackoul started her career as a “grease monkey” at a Gulf station, before moving on to Spar Market and later Foodland. Eventually, she embarked on a long and fulfilling career at Western Center.
Family meant everything to her, who was affectionately known as “Gram” to her friends and family alike. She loved solving puzzles, reading in her sunroom, making cakes and knitting for her grandchildren.
On July 31, 1949, she married David Nackoul, who died April 18, 2006.
Surviving are a son, David A. Nackoul and wife Kathy of Canonsburg; three daughters, Frances “Frankie” Byers of McDonald, Helen M. Dayak and husband Don of Avella, Nannetta Schmidt and husband Mark of Houston, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Robert “Spank” Byers and wife Cathy, Richard Byers and wife Kim, Barbara Ann Gooch and husband Jim, Don Dayak and wife Bernadette, Dan Dayak and wife Keely, David Nackoul, Michael Nackoul, Christine Evans and husband Robert, Melanie Schmidt and Amanda Schmidt; and 13 great-grandchildren, Emily, Alexis, Robert, Olivia, Gia, Jay, Justin, Chelsey, Dillon, Desiree, Deidra, Sierra and Devlin; and a sister, Beatrice Magistro and husband Robert of Aliquippa.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Ropon.
Friends will be received from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Sollon Funeral Home Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 21, followed by burial in St. George Cemetery, South Fayette Township.
