Pastor Allen F. Phillips, 84, of Spraggs, died at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.
He was born Monday, September 17, 1928, in Whiteley Township, Greene County, a son of the late William H. and Callie Richie Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was a member of James Farrell American Legion Post 330 of Waynesburg and United Mine Workers District 31, Local 1624.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served with the U.S. Army National Guard.
Mr. Phillips enjoyed reading his Bible. He was a pastor at Bethel Community Church in Pine Bank for 12 years.
He worked as a construction worker, installing shafts for various mines.
On October 10, 1947, he married June L. Curfman Phillips, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Kimberly (Fred) Roe of Spraggs; a son, Kevin G. (Lynn) Phillips of Mobile, Ala.; two daughters-in-law, Nancy Phillips of Spraggs and Tyeann Phillips of Morgantown, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Maude Wise of Waynesburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sons, Robert Phillips and Carroll Phillips; three sisters, Carrie Phillips, Ida Wise and Mamie Czako; and five brothers, Osbourne Phillips, John Phillips, Homer Phillips, William Phillips and Vernon Phillips
Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 to 10 a.m., the time of service, Sunday, February 24, in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, with Pastor Kenneth Curfman officiating. Burial will be in Claughton Cemetery, Whiteley Township. Graveside military rites will be accorded by James Farrell American Legion Post 330 of Waynesburg and representatives from the U.S. Army. Information is available at www.milliken-throckmortonfh.com.
