Byron C. Steele
Byron C. Steele, 87, of Claysville, formerly of McMurray, passed away Saturday morning, February 23, 2013, in his home, with his family by his side.
He was born March 26, 1925, in Wana, W.Va., a son of the late Renner Rex and Cora Gladys Bean Steele.
Mr. Steele had served with the U.S. Navy as a petty officer in World War II and had been employed as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic.
A member of Operating Engineers, he received a 60-year member pin days before his passing. For more than 60 years, he had been a member of Center Presbyterian Church in McMurray, where he had served as a trustee and deacon.
On June 26, 1948, he married Dorothy June Snider, who passed away July 3, 2007.
Surviving are two sons, Byron Rex (Beverly) Steele of North Strabane Township and Richard Lee (Genna) Steele, with whom he made his home; a daughter, Kathleen Sue (Paul) Golden of St. Marys, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer) Golden, Cindra (Michael) Holland, Laura (Juston) Murusa, Daniel Steele, Jason (Sophie) Steele, Matthew (Noelle) Steele and Nicholas Steele; and three great-grandchildren, Hanna Holland, Mica Murusa and Logan Steele.
Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and noon to 1 p.m., the time of service, Saturday, March 2, in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Jerome Creach officiating, interment with full military rites will be accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 and the American Legion Post 902 officiating in Woodruff Memorial Park, North Strabane Township.
