Edith M. Burns, 87, of Linden, N.J., formerly of Moundsville, W.Va., died Monday, February 25, 2013, in Care One at the Highlands, Edison, N.J.

She was born July 17, 1925, in Moundsville, a daughter of the late Clarence and Lorretta Prettyman Woodburn.

Mrs. Burns was a graduate of Moundsville High School.

She had worked for the Linden Board of Education as a school aide, retiring in 1987.

On September 2, 1951, she married Collett A. “Bo” Burns, who died July 27, 1984.

Surviving are a son, Kelly W. (Melanie) Burns of Walstonburg, N.C.; a grandson, James Burns of Linden; and a brother, Alvin (Abby) Woodburn of Florida.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are three brothers, Clarence, Harold and Alfred “Peachy” Woodburn; and sister, Alice Menendez.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, with the Rev. Jack Emerick officiating. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery, Avella.
