Mike T. Rogan, 71, of Fredericktown, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 3, 2013, in his home, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 7, 1941, in Fredericktown, a son of the late George and Mary Rogan and was a lifelong resident of East Bethlehem Township.
Mr. Rogan was the loving husband of Marilyn, with whom he would have celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary February 6, 2013.
He was a 1960 graduate of Bethlehem-Center High School and Rosedale Technical Institute.
He was a crane operator for U.S. Steel in his earlier years and later worked in maintenance for PennDOT, from where he retired.
Mr. Rogan spent 41/2 years in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Forrestal. He was a member of American Legion, Hanson Cole Post 391, where he had served as trustee and historian and, until the time of his death, was a member of the firing squad.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Charleroi and served as secretary of the church council.
Mr. Rogan was civic-minded and his dedication to the community was evident in the donating of his time and services on projects for the Fredericktown Women’s Civic Club, for which he was made an honorary member. He also was instrumental in constructing the Fredericktown War Memorial.
He was a quiet man who enjoyed raising black Angus cattle and worked on his small farm, playing with his pets and being with family. He was a Pitt fan.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons George Rogan of Fredericktown and Michael (Shannon) of Churchill; a sister, Evelyn Minor (Bob) of Washington; and a nephew, Scott Minor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George Rogan; a nephew, Mark Minor; and a great-nephew, Ryan Minor.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Frank Burkus Funeral Home, 26 Mill Street, Millsboro. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 7, in St. John’s Lutheran Church, 327 Washington Avenue, Charleroi, with Pastor Frank Zeman officiating. Those wishing to attend services are to meet at the church. Entombment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill. Hanson Cole Post 391 will meet at the funeral home Sunday at 7 p.m. for visitation and will perform military rites Monday at LaFayette Memorial Park.
