Glenn R. Chappel
Glenn R. “Toby” Chappel, 74, of Houston, died Monday, January 14, 2013, in Golden Living of South Hills.
He was born September 14, 1938, in Washington, a son of William and Gladys Favorite Chappel.
Mr. Chappel had worked as a painter at the former RCA in Meadow Lands, a loader for Overnight Trucking and as a mechanic.
He was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963.
Mr. Chappel was a member of Amercan Legion Post 902, Houston, the Bears Club of Meadow Lands and Arden Club.
He was a NASCAR fan, collected Duncan Miller glassware and fixed clocks of all kinds, but grandfather and cuckoo clocks were his specialty.
Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Smith (Walt Beatty IV) of Washington and Christin Loulli (Michael Griffith) of Claysville; four grandchildren, Michael Dessify, Logan Hobberchalk, Jessica Smith and Walt “Tank” Beatty V; three sisters, Jane Hunt of Washington, Bonnie Erbe of Longwood, Fla., and Lois Johnson (Don) of Argyle, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son, Glenn Reed Johnson; and two brothers, Thomas Chappel Sr. and David Chappel.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 17, with the Rev. John Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 902, Houston and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 combined honor guard.
