Mark David Surace

Mark David Surace, 53, of Monongahela, died unexpectedly Saturday, January 19, 2013, in Monongahela Valley Hospital.

He was born January 28, 1959, in New Eagle, a son of Marie Gamble Surace, who survives and resides in New Eagle, and the late Paul Surace, who died February 25, 2001.

Mr. Surace was a Ringgold High School graduate, Class of 1977.

He owned and operated Surace Construction Inc. for more than 30 years. He also owned Mark Surace and Associates, which he served as a construction expert in arbitration proceedings. Mr. Surace was certified in Pennsylvania by the Department of Labor and Industry as a residential/plumbing inspector and also by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a renovations, repair and painting inspector. For several years, he was chairman of the Carroll Township Uniform Construction Code Zoning Appeals Board and was a past president of Southwest Constructions Inc.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association and Valley Inn Sportsmen Club.

Mr. Surace was a man-about-town who touched many people. He was a hard-working man who lived his life to the fullest. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his mother, surviving are his companion, Patricia Karczewski of Export; sister Teresa Surace McGrew and husband Thomas of Bethel Park; brother Paul A. Surace of Bethel Park; niece Jennifer Boyle and husband Kevin; two nephews, Paul Michael Surace and Ryan James Surace; two great-nephews, Landon James Boyle and Ryan Shannon Surace; two special girls, his goddaughter, Amara Francesca Behanna, and her sister, Olivia DeRose Behanna; and many wonderful friends.

In addition to his father, deceased is his brother, Edward James Surace.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, with Elder Richard Scaglione officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 707 Grant Street, Suite 3700, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
