Coal miner, enjoyed baking

Alice Jean Schneider Funk, 77, of Waynesburg, died at 4:24 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

She was born Friday, November 22, 1935, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Charles Schneider and Mabel Stephens Schneider.

Mrs. Funk enjoyed cooking and baking, especially pies. She worked 21 years for G.C. Murphy Co. and Murphy Mart as a window trimmer, store trimmer and sign maker. She then worked 8 1/2 years for Nemacolin Buckeye Mine as a coal miner.

Surviving are her husband, William Irvin Funk, whom she married May 29, 1956; daughter Penny Candace Henderson of Macdale, W.Va.; son William Joseph Funk of Waynesburg; and granddaughter Shelby Lyn Henderson.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, with the Rev. William Parker officiating.
