Coal miner, enjoyed baking

Alice Jean Schneider Funk, 77, of Waynesburg, died at 4:24 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

She was born Friday, November 22, 1935, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Charles Schneider and Mabel Stephens Schneider.

Mrs. Funk enjoyed cooking and baking, especially pies. She worked 21 years for G.C. Murphy Co. and Murphy Mart as a window trimmer, store trimmer and sign maker. She then worked 8 1/2 years for Nemacolin Buckeye Mine as a coal miner.

Surviving are her husband, William Irvin Funk, whom she married May 29, 1956; daughter Penny Candace Henderson of Macdale, W.Va.; son William Joseph Funk of Waynesburg; and granddaughter Shelby Lyn Henderson.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, with the Rev. William Parker officiating. Entombment will be in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township. Information is available at www.milliken-throckmortonfh.com.
