John Anthony Veltri Sr.
Navy vet, UAW officer was Canton supervisor
John Anthony Veltri Sr., 85, of Washington, died Friday, July 12, 2013.
He was born September 26, 1927, in Washington, a son of the late Antonio and Anna Magnione Veltri.
Mr. Veltri was a Navy veteran and a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
For 47 years, he worked at Fischer Body Co., during which time he was a member of United Auto Workers and served as a union officer.
He was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church and the Alpine Club, where he was a former officer. In addition, he was a founding member of Canton Township Volunteer Fire Department and was a former supervisor for Canton Township.
On November 10, 1955, he married Angelina Mary Ianni, who died September 11, 1989.
Surviving are a son, John A. Veltri Jr. (Tami) of Washington; a daughter, Roxanne Veltri-McWreath of Washington; two grandchildren, Ryand Patrick McWreath and Chelsea Angelina McWreath; a great-grandchild, Aiden Patrick McWreath; two stepgrandchildren, Trey William Larson and Travis Nick Larson; and a stepgreat-grandchild, Jeremiah Joseph Larson.
Deceased are a brother, Andrew Veltri, and three sisters, Rose Runco, Micolina Magnone and Angie Clark.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, Washington, with Father Thomas O’Neil, as celebrant. Burial will follow Immaculate Conception Church, Washington. Memorial donations may be made to Canton Township Volunteer Fire Department, 700 Weirich Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
