Ronald D. Bert of Washington, formerly of Bethel Park, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013.

He was the beloved husband of Nancy Bert; father of Christian Bert, Lisa Kramer, Adam Whalen and Aaron Bert; brother of Richard Bert and Laverne Corley; and grandfather of nine.

Veteran was THS teacher, GG&C Bus retiree, farmer

William Hartman “Bill” Clark, 82, of Washington, died Monday, July 29, 2013, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He had been in declining health for six months.

He was born October 13, 1930, in Washington, a son of Scott W. and Mary Hartman Clark.

Mr. Clark was a 1948 graduate of Trinity High School. He attended Bucknell University, graduated from Penn State University and earned his master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

From 1955 until 1989, he was a teacher and administrator at Trinity High School.

Mr. Clark was co-founder of GG&C Bus Company Inc. and served as the company’s president until the time of his retirement in 2004.

An active beef farmer, he owned Clark Farms of Washington. He greatly loved his work.

Mr. Clark was a lifelong member of Faith United Presbyterian Church and a life member of the Elks. In addition, he was a 32-degree Mason and a member of Sunset Lodge 623 and Syria Shrine.

A Korean War-era veteran, Mr. Clark served in the U.S. Army from August 13, 1953, until his honorable discharge June 6, 1955.

On December 27, 1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Dolores Eakin, who survives. They were married for 59 1/2 years.

Also surviving are a son, William J. (Merri) Clark of California, Md.; daughter Linda L. Clark of Washington; brother James (Ruth) Clark of Wellsboro; and two grandchildren, Davi Lynn Clark and Billy Clark.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Home Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 1. Retired deputy public defender was sports fan

Thomas H. Cooke III, 65, of North Charleroi, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, in the emergency department at Mon Valley Hospital.

He was born November 23, 1947, in Darmstadt, Germany, a son of the late Thomas H. Jr. and Ann Joyce Little Cooke.

Mr. Cooke was a 1966 graduate of Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, Va. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1970 from California University of Pennsylvania. He received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1976 from the Duquesne University School of Law.

He recently retired as a deputy public defender of Washington County.

Mr. Cooke was a member of First Christian Church of Charleroi and Tri County Citizens Advisory Council for OVR. He was the founding solicitor for Club Serenity Inc. and a former member of the board of directors for Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers.

He was a sports fan, history buff and enjoyed reading. He devoted a lot of time to his family and cooking. Mr. Cooke was greatly loved by his family, friends and co-workers.

On July 21, 1989, he married Mary Ann Huber, who survives.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three children, David Cooke of Pittsburgh, Faith Cooke of North Charleroi and Janelle Cooke of South Park; stepson Jason Hughes (Marcy) of Moon Township; two sisters, Ann Jean Kotlansky of Uniontown and Kay Gambino of Monongahela; two sisters-in-law, Jodele Vandernitte (Joseph) and Cheryl Blair, both of Fallowfield Township; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is an infant son, Thomas Edward Cooke.

Fred Alexander Fleet, 89, of Washington, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 27, 2013, in Greenery Specialty Care Center, surrounded by his family.

He was born August 2, 1923, a son of the late Fred and Elizabeth Fleet.

In addition to his parents, deceased are Mary Wheeler, Sarah Harvey, Charles Fleet and the late Delcina Leftwich, to whom he was married for 60 years.

Mr. Fleet was the owner of Fleet Remodeling, Fleet & Fleet Inc. and founder of the Highland-Erie Organization.

He was involved in numerous community organizations, such as American Legion Post 175, Veterans of Foreign War Post 927, Washington County Flyer Club, Citizens With Political Concerns and many more.

Surviving are four children, Fred (Karen) Fleet II, Cindy Patterson, Amber Fleet and Anica Fleet; two granddaughters, Mary and Hannah Patterson; three sisters, Dorothy (Bennie) Watson, Edith Naylor, Peggy Miller; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends will be received from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, in New Dominion Kingdom Ministries Church, 240 North Lincoln Street, Washington. Services will begin immediately at 6 p.m. with Pastor Walter Cherry officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Post 175 American Legion.

Kathleen Fox, 93, of Springfield, Ohio, formerly of Waynesburg, died Monday, July 29, 2013.

Arrangements are incomplete and are being handled by Milliken & Throckmorton Funeral Home, Waynesburg.

MSHA retiree, outdoorsman enjoyed family gatherings

James Wesley Hockin, 92, of Indiana, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013.

A son of Percival and Adah Bassett Hockin, he was born September 20, 1920, in Dubois.

After moving to Punxsutawney, he attended Punxsutawney High School and graduated in 1938.

Mr. Hockin was employed in the coal industry all his life. In 1950, he moved to Greene County, where he was employed by Duquesne Light Mining for 19 years. In 1969, he moved to Indiana, where he was employed by R&P and the federal government as an inspector for Mine Safety and Health Administration. He retired in 1983 from the MSHA.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Masonic Valley Lodge 459, Fayco Forest 852, Valley of Uniontown and Valley of Altoona.

Mr. Hockin was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed nothing more than family gatherings, complete with a picnic and whiffle ball game. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and following the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also enjoyed spending time in his garden.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Snyder Hockin; five children, Carol Hockin Minor and husband Jim of Mapletown, Richard Hockin and wife Mildred of Indiana, David Hockin of Bobtown, Connie Hockin Reid and husband Anthony of Indiana and Claudia Hockin Trout and husband Greg of Indiana; 12 grandchildren, James Minor and Malinda Minor Forsberg, both of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., Matthew Minor of Holly Springs, N.C., Dr. Benjamin Hockin of Billings, Mont., Dr. Stacy Hockin Generalovich of Poland, Ohio, Jennifer Hockin Skumlien of Bobtown, Jessica Hockin Garnek of Bobtown, Ryan Reid of Phoenix, Ariz., Kelly Reid of Indiana, Renee Trout Thomas of Indiana, Shawn Trout of Miffintown and Hannah Hockin of Bobtown; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Hockin of Winchester, Va.; and four sisters, Jean Segner of Chesapeake, Va., Eleanor Nystrom of Indiana, Lucille Belin of Punxsutawney and Suzanne Pierce of Ann Arbor, Mich.

Deceased are his parents, brother Percy and daughter-in-law Sharon Prete Hockin.

According to his wishes, there will be no visitation. Private funeral service will be held in John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home with Pastor Kathy Mihoerck officiating. Interment will follow in Morningside Cemetery, Dubois.

Active church volunteer was born in Waynesburg

Charlotte Elizabeth Horton, 68, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013, in Moravian Manor, Lititz.

She was born in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Franklin and Alice Krause Crick.

She was the loving wife of Robert N. Horton for 45 years.

Mrs. Horton was a speech pathologist and worked for most of her career at Intermediate Unit 13, eventually retiring from Penn Manor.

She was an active volunteer at Moravian Church, a Girl Scout Brownie leader and also was a volunteer receptionist for Lancaster Regional Hospital for many years.

In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, doing crafts and gardening. She had a green thumb and was able to grow anything.

In addition to her husband, Robert, surviving are two daughters, Laura Hample, wife of Eric, of Lancaster, and Susan Chohany, wife of Tim, of Omaha, Neb.; several nieces and nephews; and grandson Calvin Chohany.

Faithful member of Center Presbyterian Church

Laurel Earley Isager, 66, of McMurray, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, July 26, 2013.

She was born March 26, 1947, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Edward and Ruth Earley.

She was a proud graduate of West Penn Hospital School of Nursing.

Mrs. Isager was the beloved wife of 40 years to Peter Isager of McMurray; loving mother of Kristina (Pastor Michael) McCormick of McMurray and Jennifer (Chris) Purvis of Fort Mill, S.C.; sister of Patricia Popoleo, David (Joanne) Earley and Paul (Jackie) Earley; and adored grandmother of Jackson, Carson, Raegan, Brady, Jonas and Campbell. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

She was a faithful member of Center Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir since 1986 and enjoyed playing in the handbell choir.

Mrs. Isager was an avid reader who also loved the outdoors. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.

James Jackson King, 76, of Washington, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

1940 Trinity graduate

Geraldine Ellen Martin, 90, of Washington, died Monday, July 29, 2013, in Southminster Place, after a brief illness.

She was born July 18, 1923, in Meadow Lands, a daughter of George T. Ravoira and Helen Mrock Ravoira.

Mrs. Martin graduated from Manifold Elementary School, Trinity High School, where she was salutatorian of the Class of 1940, and Penn Commercial College.

Before her marriage, she was employed as a secretary for attorney Adam Sanders, as well as Jessop Steel Co.

On May 16, 1946, she was married to Harold L. Martin in West Washington Methodist Church by the Rev. John H. DeBolt. They resided in Lagonda for 52 years until his death January 30, 1998.

She was a member of West Washington United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. She was a Sunday school teacher and a member of United Methodist Women.

Mrs. Martin was a charter member of South Franklin Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, a member of Lagonda Homemakers and Neighborhood Club and a volunteer at Presbyterian SeniorCare.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna (Dennis) Makel of Washington; son Barry Martin of Prosperity; grandchildren Kenneth (Laura) Hathaway of Upper St. Clair, Kelly (Nickolas) Vayansky of Lawrence, Lea (Jonathan) Chase of Avella and Dennae Makel of Washington; and great-grandchildren, Sara, Noah and Reagan Hathaway, Emma Hull and Nicholas and Alton Chase.

Deceased are a daughter, Vivian Hathaway; son-in-law Kenneth Hathaway; and a granddaughter, Amy Bentz.

Funeral director was active in his community

William Eric Menni, 58, of McKees Rocks, died Friday, July 26, 2013.

He was born December 29, 1954, in Uniontown, a son of Kathryn Albert Menni of Uniontown and the late Raymond Eric Menni.

A graduate of Uniontown High School, Mr. Menni attended Penn State University and graduated from California University of Pennsylvania as well as Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.

He worked as a professional embalmer and funeral director for many funeral homes in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Mr. Menni was active in his community, especially with his sons’ youth sports teams.

He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Masonic Order.

On October 24, 1981, he married Jody Hughes, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Jason Eric Menni and Jordan Christopher Menni, both of McKees Rocks; sister Barbara (Raymond) Juriga of Pittsburgh; several nieces and nephews, including Vanessa Juriga and Max Juriga; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Charlotte Hughes of Brownsville; brothers-in-law, Charles and William Hughes; sister-in-law Charlene Hughes; and several cousins.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Home Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 1, in Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 79 West Fayette Street, Uniontown, with the Rev. William J. Younger and the Rev. Michael I. Member of GoldenAgers, St. Francis of Assisi Church

Jean O. Wdowiak Mondell, 101, of Finleyville, died Monday, July 29, 2013, in the Center for Compassionate Care, Mt. Lebanon.

She was born November 5, 1911, in Chicago, Ill., a daughter of John and Mary Sawicki Wdowiak.

Mrs. Mondell was a homemaker and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Finleyville, Finleyville GoldenAgers, having served as president for many years, the Forever Young Club of Finleyville and Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6664 in South Park.

She enjoyed playing bingo at local churches and fire departments.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Book of Whitehall; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are her husband, Joseph “Fats” Mondell, who died in January; and two sons, Albert Schriner and Charles “Cookie” LaSota.

Woodville Hospital employee loved country music, the arts

Sally E. D’Angelo Pancari, 92, of Bridgeville, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013.

She was born November 22, 1920, one of 10 children, to the late Mary Henrietta Finocchi and John Battista D’Angelo.

Deceased are nine siblings.

She was the beloved wife of Frank Pancari for 53 years; cherished mother of Janet DeFelice Maioli (Ray); proud grandmother of Suzanne L. Lewis, Suzette DeFaveri (Richard), Susan M. Hurney (Donald) and Janet L. Gruda; and great-grandmother of Mario Didiano, Gregory Didiano, Heather DeFaveri and Chance R. Hartman. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mrs. Pancari came from an artistic family and enjoyed learning new ways to express her creativity. Her hobbies included, but were not limited to, ceramics, sewing, cake decorating, flower arranging and playing music. She loved listening to country music and traveling.

She worked at Woodville State Hospital for 25 years as a dietary supervisor.

Brenda J. Zanakis-Stewart, 70, of Hickory, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013, in Canonsburg Hospital.

She was born October 8, 1942, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Harry F. and Mary Morgan Stubenbordt.

Mrs. Zanakis-Stewart worked for Industrial Scientific in its warehouse department.

She was a devoted sister, who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving are her beloved companion of more than 40 years John D. Stewart; stepson Brian (Reba) Stewart of Charlotte, N.C.; stepdaughter Tia (Rick) Krah of McDonald; four grandsons, Brandon Chiera, Cade Krah, Brody Krah and Kevin Stewart; five sisters, Doris “Dori” Greely of Houston, Cealia Metz of Sharon, Kathleen (Gary) Spiegal of Finley, Ohio, Patricia Stubenbordt of Hookstown and Sarah Ellen (Vern) Smith of McDonald; and several nieces and nephews.

She also leaves her beloved dog, Darby, and “nephew dog,” Clancy.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, is a sister, Margaret Mary Jones.
