Theresa Fortune DeJohn, 97, a lifelong resident of Canonsburg, died Monday, June 3, 2013, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.
She was born October 8, 1915, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Antonio and Concetta Natoli Balsama.
Mrs. DeJohn was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg all of her life.
She loved to dance, especially the tarantella, cook and be sociable with all who came to know and love her. She loved to sing Italian songs and celebrate life.
Mrs. DeJohn volunteered at Canonsburg General Hospital for about 20 years working in the hospital snack bar. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was active in St. Patrick Christian Mothers.
She worked for RCA Co. and retired in 1977.
On August 22, 1935, in St. Genevieve Roman Catholic Church, she married Thomas Frank DeJohn, who died in August 1994.
Surviving are two daughters, Della Hritsko of Washington and Shirley (Dominic) Broglia of Cecil; a son, Thomas M. (Pamela) DeJohn of Canonsburg; nine grandchildren, Karen Curry, Dom Broglia, Harry Hritsko, Lauren Broglia, Brian Hritsko, Taira DeJohn, Amy Ammons, Trenae Caruso and Kim Stephenson; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son who died in infancy; two brothers, Joseph Balzamo and Anthony Balsama; and two sisters, Catherine DeJohn and Carmella Zaggari.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 194 East College Street, Canonsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 6, in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. The Christian Mothers of St. Patrick Parish will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
