Cheese’s House of Barbecue owner was sports enthusiast

Edgar B. “Cheese” Wise Jr., 74, of Washington, died unexpectedly Thursday, June 6, 2013, in Washington Hospital.

He was born May 16, 1939, in Washington, a son of the late Edgar B. Sr. and Martha B. Motley Wise.

Mr. Wise was a 1957 graduate of Washington High School, where he played football and basketball.

He was an avid sports fan.

Mr. Wise was the owner/operator of Highland Bar-Grill for more than 30 years and most recently, along with his family, owned Cheese’s House of Barbecue on East Maiden Street. He was formerly employed by Washington Bottling and later Drakenfield.

Mr. Wise loved going to The Meadows Racetrack & Casino for horseracing and, most of all, enjoyed all of the sports that his children and grandchildren played.

On September 6, 1958, he married Sallie Elizabeth Pace, who died April 13, 2008.

Surviving are children Thomas (Jamie) Wise of Harrisburg, Karen (Jerry) Wilson of Washington, Paula Wise of California, Tanya Wise of Charlotte, N.C., and Mark (Anna) Wise of Washington; two brothers, John (Evelyn) Wise of Dayton, Ohio, and James (Mary) Thomas of Washington; a sister, Macilee Woods of Washington; seven grandchildren, Lindsay Wise, Brent (Kimberly) Wise, Brooke Wise, Mark Wise Jr., Joshua Wise, Alex Wise and Zachary Wise; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a brother, Paul, who died in infancy, and three sisters, Betty Wheeler, Mabel Wise and Minnie Ann Wise.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S.
