Chemical engineer was amateur radio operator
Kevin Smith, 59, of Carroll Township, died Monday, June 10, 2013, in Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Jefferson Hills.
He was born Sunday, February 21, 1954, in Circleville, Ohio, a son of the late Robert W. and Teresa Karnbauer Smith.
Mr. Smith was a chemical engineer employed with Carmeuse Lime and Stone on Neville Island.
He was a member of St. Damien of Molokai Parish in Monongahela, where he served as a lector and Eucharistic minister. He also was a member of Catholic Men’s Fellowship and was very active in all church functions.
Mr. Smith was an amateur radio operator and was a member of Washington Amateur Communications and WASH, with whom he frequently volunteered as a participant in emergency communication drills and special events such as the Pittsburgh Marathon.
Surviving are his wife, Peg Cantini Smith; a son, Michael (Kimberly) Smith of Wexford; a daughter, Jen (Michael) Borne of Finleyville; a sister, Kristine (Gary) Epright of Arkansas; and two brothers, Keith Smith and Robert (Donna) Smith, both of Washington.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, in St. Damien of Molokai Parish, 722 West Main Street, Monongahela, PA 15063, with the Rev. Father William Terza officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, MDS Foundation or Be the Match. Anthony L.
