William Anthony Platt, 60, of Washington, died Friday, June 14, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington, following a brief battle with cancer.

He was born August 3, 1952, in Washington, a son of the late John “Shine” and Mary Capo Platt.

Mr. Platt was a member of First Lutheran Church, where he was very active in earlier years.

He was a graduate of Washington Institute of Technology.

Mr. Platt worked at Brockway 11, Kelley Industries and Penn Mould Industries, and also at the Observer-Reporter. Most recently, he had worked in electrical assembly department at Caterpillar Inc..

He was a South Franklin volunteer fireman.

Mr. Platt enjoyed fishing.

On February 18, 1978, he married Linda Beagle, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Gavin Platt of Oakland, Calif.; a daughter, Falyn Platt of Wheeling, W.Va.; sister-in-law Carol Platt of Bloomingdale, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

He had been eagerly awaiting the birth of his first grandchild in December.

Deceased is a brother, John Robert “Bob” Platt.

Friends will be received from noon to 2 and 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, in First Lutheran Church, 92 West Walnut Street, Washington, with the Rev. Kenneth Schott officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
