U.S. Army vet enjoyed hunting, professional wrestling
Robert E. Sweeney, 75, of Jefferson, and formerly of Nemacolin, died at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington.
He was born May 26, 1938, in Franklin Township, a son of the late Robert E. and Freda M. Rumble Sweeney.
Mr. Sweeney was a graduate of Mapletown High School and resided in Greene County most of his life.
He served with the U.S. Army in Germany from 1958 until 1960.
Mr. Sweeney enjoyed hunting, fishing and professional wrestling.
Surviving are two sons, William L. Sweeney and wife Barbara, with whom he made his home in Jefferson, and James E. Sweeney and wife Martha of Carmichaels; two daughters, Barbara Jean Sweeney and companion Edvin Martell of Oxon Hill, Md., and Tresa L. Lipscomb and husband Ken of Carmichaels; six grandchildren, William Sweeney Jr., Sandi Willhoft, Joshua Sweeney, Kody Sweeney, Tony Lipscomb and Kenzie Renee Lipscomb; two great-grandchildren, Carson and Ethan Sweeney; a brother, James I. Sweeney of Greensboro; and a nephew, Eric Sweeney.
Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Yoskovich Funeral Home (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, where the service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 22. The Rev. Bruce R. Judy will officiate. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township, with military honors accorded by American Legion Post 400 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3491.
