Paul W. “Pappy” Miller Sr., 78, of North Franklin Township, died Saturday afternoon, June 22, 2013, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born November 15, 1934, in Washington, a son of the late the Rev. J. L. and Bessie P. Meeks Miller.
Mr. Miller served in the U.S. Army in the armored division during the Korean War from 1954 to 1956.
He had previously been employed by S.B. McWreath Dairy, West Penn and Howes Leather Co. in Mt. Jewett.
Mr. Miller founded Paul W. Miller Roofing Co. in 1963.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Washington, Masonic Lodge 164 F&AM and American Legion Post 175.
For 30 years, he was a basketball official in the Washington-Greene chapter. He also supported Trinity High School sports, especially the soccer program.
His wife of 55 years, Dolores “Penny” Miller, survives.
Also surviving are three children, Jodi (August) Capiola, Paul (Lisa) Miller Jr. and Dr. Steven (Carolyn) Miller, all of Washington; five grandchildren, August Capiola III and Miranda, Monica, Sage and Jade Miller, whom he dearly loved and they loved in return; a brother, John L. Miller Jr.; two sisters, Opal Pierson and Evelyn Spriggs; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Lawrence W. “Bruz” Miller and Edward B. Miller.
Friends and family are welcome to a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, 29 North College Street, Washington, with the Rev. Keith Simmons and Pastor Johnny Wray Miller, leading the service. To those attending the service, be aware that the church sanctuary is not air-conditioned. Please wear lightweight and comfortable clothing. Immediately after the memorial service, the family will receive friends and share a meal at Jeremiah’s, 2111 North Franklin Drive, North Franklin Township.
