Helen Bromley McAdoo, 93, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013.

She was a daughter of the late John Z. Bromley Sr. and Helen Shoemaker Bromley. She was born in the Panama Canal Zone.

Mrs. McAdoo was a 1937 graduate of Washington High School.

She worked at Woolworths, until her marriage to Donald W. McAdoo on October 1, 1940. Her husband passed away in 1953.

Mrs. McAdoo raised their four children on the farm in Frogtown, where all were active in Lower Buffalo Presbyterian Church. When her youngest child followed her siblings to college, she pursued her own career as a licensed practical nurse. As such, she worked at Washington Hospital, McMurray Hills Manor and Western Center. After retiring in 1981, she continued in respite care for MHMR.

She continued to enjoy gardening and was always a voracious reader. She was always fond of her dogs.

Mrs. McAdoo’s influence is perpetual.

She will be sorely missed by her two surviving children, Rebecca McAdoo and David J. (Gail) McAdoo; three grandchildren, Catherine McAdoo, Matthew McAdoo and Lee Thompson; and a great-grandchild, Chloe.

Mrs. McAdoo was the last of her immediate family.

She leaves behind in-laws, Nita Chopp, Kenneth (Esther) McAdoo, Margaret McAdoo and Naomi McAdoo and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a daughter, Pat Thompson; a son, Donald McAdoo; a daughter-in-law, Martha McAdoo; and siblings Florence Kughn, Elizabeth Duncan, John Z. Bromley Jr., William Bromley and James Bromley.

Friends will be received from noon to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Thomas W. Hummell, supervisor, Douglas M. Jones, director, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4. Interment will follow in Independence Cemetery, Avella.
