Kevin DeWayne Davis, 53, of Claysville, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, in Washington Hospital.

He was born February 22, 1960, in Washington, a son of Archie and Sandra Mosser Davis.

Mr. Davis was a graduate of McGuffey High School.

He was a member of Pathways (United Cerebral Palsy), for 21 years. He enjoyed fishing with his family.

Surviving are three brothers, Hank Davis of Wheeling, W.Va., Richard Davis of Claysville and Ronald Davis of West Finley; and three sisters, Sue Spallone of Claysville, Cheryl Davis of Snyder, Texas, and Beulah Varga of Claysville.

Deceased are two brothers, Archie, who died in infancy, and David.

Helen L. Hudak, 95, of Washington, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in Country Meadows, Bridgeville.

She was born September 22, 1917, in Canonsburg, a daughter of George and Anna Martin Matyas.

Mrs. Hudak was a graduate of Canonsburg High School.

She had been employed by the former Daily Notes in Canonsburg, West Penn Water Co. and RCA and retired from Mayview State Hospital, where she worked in the admissions department.

Mrs. Hudak was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Canonsburg.

She was a member of State Workers Association and enjoyed knitting and spending time with her family.

On January 12, 1939, she married Arthur Oliverio, who died October 17, 1956. She later married John Hudak Jr., who passed away September 11, 2003.

Surviving are a daughter, Judith Urbanic and husband Wayne of Houston; a son, Louis Oliverio and wife Evelyn (Dolly) of Houston; three grandsons, David Urbanic (Marla), Darrell Urbanic (Linda) and Jason Oliverio; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Trevor, Kamryn and Sarah Urbanic; a stepson, David Hudak of Bridgeville; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two brothers, George and John Matyas; and two sisters, Ann McAvoy and Mary Hardy.

Linda Owens, 70, of Brownsville, died Monday, March 4, 2013.

John J. Pollock Jr., 89, of Marianna, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.

He was born June 19, 1923, in Lake Lynn, a son of the late John Sr. and Anna Zelineck Pollock.

A lifelong resident of Marianna, Mr. Pollock was a 1941 graduate of West Bethlehem High School and attended Waynesburg College.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater.

For more than 34 years, Mr. Pollock worked as an underground coal miner and a section foreman for Bethlehem Mines Corp., Mine 58, Marianna, until his retirement in 1983.

He was a longtime member of Marianna United Methodist Church, a member of Steele Lillie American Legion Post 744 of Marianna, United Mine Workers of America and Marianna Lyceum.

Mr. Pollock bowled in many area leagues including Tan-O-Bell Lanes, Bentleyville; Alpine Club, Washington; and Marianna Lyceum. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors.

On February 25, 1955, he married Jane Davidson, who survives.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Cindy Bucenell and husband Rick of Marianna; two brothers, Paul Pollock and wife Caroline of Washington and Bill Pollock of Falls Church, Va.; four sisters, Mary Anne Wolfe of Washington, Gladys “Martha” Landman of Grindstone, Barbara Armenini of Washington and Veronica Coking of Tempe, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are two sisters, Viola McMurray and Justine Pollock.

Lloyd Paul Salsberry, 77, of Washington, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

He was born July 26, 1935, in Washington, a son of Herbert Elvin “Dutch” and Bertha Pease Salsberry.

Mr. Salsberry was a 1953 graduate of Trinity High School.

He loved music, especially big band music, and when able, he loved to polka and square dance. Mr. Salsberry could play the piano, saxophone and clarinet, as well as other instruments. In the 1950s, he had a dance orchestra that was popular in Washington.

Mr. Salsberry was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from May 13, 1958, until May 12, 1960, and October 15, 1961, until August 8, 1962.

For 37 years, he worked for AT&T International in operations management.

Mr. Salsberry enjoyed spending time at Deep Creek, boating and water skiing, when his health permitted.

He was a member of First Christian Church and a former member of Houston American Legion 902.

On June 10, 1966, he married Myrtle V. “Ginny” Ferris, who died January 24, 2012.

Surviving are a son, David Bruce (Tina) Crawford of Meadow Lands; four daughters, Mary Beth Cottrill, Pamela Jeanne (Gregory) Hilderbrand, Paula (Brent) Fulton and Lori (Frank) Tennant, all of Washington; a brother, Duane Salsberry of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sisters, Nila Mae Mounts of Taylorstown and Vivian Holden of the State of Indiana; 11 grandchildren, Betsy Lynn, Eric, Jason, Megan, Brandon, Brittany, Jessie, Amanda, Frankie, Nathan and Devin; 10 great-grandchildren, Conrad, Caitlin, Coby, Carson, Caden, Amelia, Olivia, Jason, Jake and Christopher; and a great-great-grandchild, Bella.

Deceased are two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Eleanor Woods; and two brothers, Kenneth and Elvin Salsberry.

Susanna Rose Setto, 93, of Houston, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.

She was born April 21, 1919, in Donora, a daughter of Joseph and Mary Andras Zelinsky.

Mrs. Setto worked as a practical nurse in Mayview State Hospital for 10 years and also was a private-duty baby sitter and housekeeper.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow Lands, and its Christian Mothers.

For 39 years, she was married to Stephen P. Setto, who died in April 1989.

Surviving are three sons, Stephen (Linda) Setto of Washington, Richard (Kathleen) Setto of Houston and James Setto Sr. of Washington; a daughter, Cynthia Davison (Brian) Masterson of Somerset; grandchildren Melissa (Darryl Cozza) Lucciola, Mark Setto, Michael (Robin) Setto, Matthew Setto, James (Maria) Setto Jr., Holly Setto (fiancé Vince Schultz), William Davison Jr. and Jessica (Brett) Lojacono; and great-grandchildren Sara Setto, Mason and Maxwell Setto, James Nicholas, Ashley, Madison and Arabella Grace Setto, Hayden, Ava and Carter Lojacono.

Deceased are a grandson, Martin Setto; three sisters, Mary Hanichak, Margaret Segursky and Anne Marie Zelinsky; and a brother, Joseph Zelinsky.

Bonnie Lou Sowinski, 59, of McDonald, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, in her home.

She was born April 23, 1953, in Kentucky, a daughter of the late Andrew and Donna Haines Donaldson.

Ms. Sowinski was a loving and devoted mother and a loyal friend. She was always active volunteering and helping people.

She was a member of Robinson Presbyterian Church in Bulger, where she had served as an elder, deacon and choir member. She also was a member and officer of Pennsylvania Grange, Bulger.

Surviving are two daughters, Maxine A. Sowinski of New Brunswick, N.J., and Mary Jane Sowinski of Oakdale; two sons, Robert C. Sowinski of Canonsburg and John David (Kaity) Sowinski of McDonald; three sisters, Betty (Ken) Cox of Parish, Fla., Donna Donaldson of McDonald and Karen Donaldson of Slovan; four brothers, Dennis (Bunny) Donaldson of Oakdale, Jerry (Sis) Donaldson of McDonald, James Donaldson of Joffre and Timothy (Theresa) Donaldson of Bulger; a granddaughter, Ava M. Sowinski; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Deceased is a brother, Samuel (Betty) Donaldson.

Gloria J. Thomas, 80, of Washington, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013.

Joseph Patrick Veltre Sr., 90, of Washington, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, in Humbert Lane Nursing Home, South Strabane Township.

He was born April 23, 1922, in Broughton, Allegheny County, a son of Frank and Sarah Romano Veltre, who were born in Italy.

Mr. Veltre was a 1941 graduate of Trinity High School.

A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy from October 5, 1943, until his honorable discharge January 3, 1946, with a rank of signalman, second class. During his time in the Navy, Mr. Veltre attended the University of Illinois Signal School, played on the Naval baseball team and served on the USS Strong DD758. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and Navy Occupation Medal-Japan.

For 30 years, Mr. Veltre worked as a pressman at General Motors in Dravosburg.

He enjoyed fishing and was an inductee in the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame for baseball.

Mr. Veltre was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.

On June 12, 1947, he married Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Havener, who died June 13, 2010.

Surviving are three sons, Joseph P. Veltre Jr. of Washington, Gary (Becky) Veltre of Nineveh and John (Mary Ann) Veltre of Harrisville; twin daughters Mary Elizabeth (Tom) Riddle of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Myra (Larry “Sonny”) Decker of Springfield, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, Valerie Veltre, Joseph Riddle, Devlin Moyers, Holly Riddle, Meghan Asher, Samuel Veltre, Joseph Veltre III, Sarah Veltre, Elizabeth Veltre, Logan Veltre, Curtis Veltre and Levi Decker; and four great-grandchildren, Dilynn Riddle, Maya Riddle, Caroline Moyers and Clark Louderback.

He was the last of his immediate family.

Deceased are brothers Samuel, John, Leonard and Anthony Veltre; and sisters Angeline Sharik, Theresa Chamber and Mary Polinski.

William Bernard “Bucky” Ware, 97, of Washington, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in Washington Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born March 25, 1915, in Washington, a son of Carl and Margaret Phillips Ware.

Mr. Ware was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and worked as a machinist in Hazel Atlas, Continental Can and RCA.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy from March 28, 1944, until his honorable discharge January 10, 1946, as a motor machinist’s mate, third class. For his service, Mr. Ware was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal.

He was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and enjoyed working on cars.

Mr. Ware was a very active member of Immaculate Conception Church.

On October 13, 1939, he married Rachel Fortney, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Paul and wife Terri Ware of Washington; a granddaughter, Megan and husband Zack Hahr; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a son, Martin V. Ware; two brothers, Paul and Edward Ware; and three sisters, Mary Ware, Sarah Behringer and Margaret Duncan.

Anne C. Wright, 87, of Salem, Ohio, formerly of Washington’s West End, died Monday, March 4, 2013, in Blossom Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Salem.

She was born August 6, 1925, in Fairfield, Ala., a daughter of Roy and Mary Ellen Quinlan Doupé.

Mrs. Wright was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church of Washington and Christian Mothers.

She was employed by Ball Glass Co. for 26 years, working as a glass packer. For nine of those years, she was treasurer of the credit union.

Mrs. Wright enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the 500 Card Club.

On December 9, 1943, she married Kenneth M. Wright, who died March 31, 1975.

She is survived by a daughter, Beverly (Benjamin) Brown of Salem; a son, Kenneth R. (Connie) Wright of White House, Tenn; a sister, Mary Sitek of South Lyon, Mich.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are brothers Thomas Doupé and Joseph Doupé.
