Anthony J. Zick

Anthony J. Zick, 93, of Burgettstown, died Friday, March 8, 2013, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born April 28, 1919, in Rush Run, Ohio, a son of the late Peter Anthony and Mary Ann Olenick Zick.

Prior to retirement, he was employed by Bologna Coal Co.

Mr. Zick was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Burgettstown, Burgettstown Senior Citizens, Slovan Veterans of Foreign Wars and United Mine Workers of America.

He volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program in Burgettstown.

Mr. Zick was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II as captain in the 271st Engineer Combat Battalion, attached to the 71st Infantry Division.

On June 7, 1947, he married Anna Fodor, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Anthony J. Zick Jr. of Mobile, Ala., and Jeffry (Mary) Zick of Coraopolis; three daughters, Roberta (Frank) Thomson of Manthoa, N.J., Karen M. (Dennis) Boris of Burgettstown and Noreen (Michael) O’Neill of Kulpsville; grandchildren Deborah Fanale, Brian and Daniel Thomson, Jennifer Murray, Damon, Nathan, Jeff Jr. and Katerina Zick, Valerie Ackerman, Amanda Brown, Leah Cave, Emily Boris, and Casey, Tess and Erin O’Neill; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Catherine Pawlak of Pittsburgh, Margaret Whitco of New Kensington and Irene Loder of Crescent.

Deceased are a son, John Zick, who died March 15, 2004; a sister, Mary Tranquill; a brother, Joseph Zick; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Zick.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 8 p.m. Monday in Taucher Funeral Home, 23 Erie Mine Road, Burgettstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Burgettstown, with the Rev. Robert Connolly as celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Slovan Barto Post Veterans of Foreign Wars.
