Annabelle Caldwell, 88, of Monongahela, died Monday, March 18, 2013, in The Devonshire of Mt. Lebanon.
She was born October 25, 1924, a daughter of the late Robert and Leora Baughman McAlpine Sr.
Mrs. Caldwell was a 1942 graduate of Monongahela High School.
In her younger years, she was employed at the former First National Bank in Monongahela. After working at the bank, she attended Douglas School of Business in Monessen. She was employed at J.C. Penney’s business office in Castle Shannon and then at Sears, in the cashiers’ department, at South Hills Village.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Monongahela, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a deaconess.
Mrs. Caldwell had a passion for history and was a member of the Monongahela Historical Society. She authored and compiled a leaflet on the Whiskey Rebellion in Monongahela. Along with her husband, Marvin, brother-in-law Wilbur and his wife, Elizabeth Ann, they loved to get dressed up in colonial costumes and ride on floats in many area parades.
She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and sewing.
Surviving are her husband, Marvin Caldwell, with whom she celebrated 70 years of marriage November 21, 2012; two sons, Ronald and wife Carolyn Caldwell of Lewisburg and Richard Caldwell of Boulder, Colo.; a daughter, Janice and husband Ted Schroeder of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren, Anthony, Brian, Matthew, Joshua and Luke Caldwell, Theodore Schroeder and Francine Brady; eight great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Sasha, Ben, Zachary, Ben and Jacob Caldwell, Caitlin and Molly Brady-Bishop; four great-great-grandchildren, Dakota and Wyatt Magee and Tristan and Jackson Caldwell; a brother, David McAlpine of Tampa, Fla.; and a brother-in-law, Domenick Delsignore of Washington.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are a brother, Robert McAlpine Jr.; a sister, Jean Delsignore; and a daughter-in-law, Jeanne Caldwell.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela. Services will be held at noon Friday, March 22, in First Baptist Church, Monongahela, with the Rev. Mark Schollaert officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.
