Norman Wade Gorby

Norman Wade Gorby, 81, of Washington, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, in his home.

He was born March 21, 1931, in Washington, a son of Guy and Anna E. Carroll Gorby.

Mr. Gorby was Protestant.

During the Korean war, he served from 1950 to 1953 as a sergeant in the U.S. Army.

Following his service, he first worked at Hazel Atlas Glass Plant No. 2 and later became a steelworker, employed by Jones and Laughlin Steel Co.

He was a member of American Legion Post 639, Claysville, for more than 50 years.

Mr. Gorby is survived by three sisters, Edna V. Maiello and Emma Jean Dorsey, both of Washington, and Aileen Lauther of Claysville, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, George P. and Ronald Lee Gorby, and a sister, Mary E. Burt.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., the time of service, Saturday, March 23, in Hummell & Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Thomas W. Hummell, supervisor, Douglas M. Jones, director. The Rev. Larry Wiltrout will officiate. Interment in Washington Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family. Military honors will be offered at the funeral home by American Legion Post 639, Claysville. Memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice Care, 275 Meadowlands Boulevard, Washington, or to American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.
