William E. Reese

William E. Reese, 82, of Washington, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, in Cranberry Place, Cranberry.

He was born in Cambria County June 10, 1930, a son of the late Stanley G. and Caroline Servis Reese.

Mr. Reese was a 1956 graduate of Penn State University. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea with the 31st infantry 3rd battalion and was a longtime member of American Legion Post 175 of Washington. He worked for the Observer-Reporter as a reporter and outdoors editor for 36 years from 1956 until his retirement in 1992.

He was a member of First Christian Church of Marianna, where he served as deacon, was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, taught hunter safety education for 35 years and was a member of the Arms Club of Washington.

On August 25, 1979, he married Linda Frederick, with whom he had shared more than 33 years of marriage.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Diane Reese of Harrisburg and Beth Burgard of Harrisburg; a son, Matthew (Danielle) Reese of West Finley; a brother, Robert Reese of Holidaysburg; two sisters, Jean (Louis) Bertoletti of Ebensburg and Eleanor Benko of Ebensburg; five grandchildren, Richard (Jennifer) Liddick, Tim (Nichole) Liddick, Wyatt Burgard, Marlee Reese and Ainsley Reese; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 p.m., the time of service, Sunday, March 24, in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington, with Pastor Betty Riecks and Pastor Michael Lehman officiating. A military service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of Washington. A guest book may be signed at www.nicholfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Marianna Community Library.
