Janet Tucci Schneider
Janet Tucci Schneider, 66, of Washington, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, in Washington Hospital.
She was born October 2, 1946, in Washington Hospital, a daughter of Genevieve Parry Tucci and the late Amel Tucci.
Mrs. Schneider was a graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1964, and Point Park College with an associate’s degree in secretarial science. She was a secretary to the student senate and her sorority, Sigma Delta Sigma.
She was recording secretary for the Western Pennsylvania Area Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association for six years. She also was past president of Open Doors for the Handicapped, of which she originated and was an active member.
In May 1979, she received the Patricia Thoben award for distinguished service for equal rights for handicapped citizens and also Secretarial Service Award of the Association of Rehabilitation Secretaries. She was a member of Human Relations Commission and former chairperson of the Mayor’s Commission for Handicapped in Washington. In 1978, she was awarded national certification as a certified professional secretary.
Mrs. Schneider was a 1978 graduate of the Dale Carnegie course in effective speaking and human relations. She was a former secretary of Washington County Health and Welfare Council and an administrative secretary for the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation for 25 years, before retiring in 1994. She also was a notary public.
She loved the theater and movies and enjoyed dining out and cooking.
On August 12, 1988, she married Robert J. Schneider, who died May 29, 2007.
Surviving are her brother, Mark and wife Judy of Mt. Pleasant, and several cousins including Guy and Carol Tucci and Laura Schrock.
Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, in Immaculate Conception Church, Washington. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
