Max Chester Mermon

Max Chester Mermon, 75, of Burgettstown, died Friday, March 29, 2013, in Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.

He was born September 23, 1937, in Langeloth, a son of the late Jiggs C. and Marie Sziminski Mermon.

Prior to retirement, Mr. Mermon was employed by Weirton Steel Corp.

He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War.

Mr. Mermon was a member of the Polish Club in Slovan, American Legion in Avella, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Burgettstown and Avella Sportsmen Club and a life member of the Eldersville Fire Department.

He liked to follow and was an avid fan of Burgettstown sporting events.

On December 11, 1968, he married Marge Velegdon Stanish, who survives.

Also surviving are his three children, Emil (Connie) Stanish of Wilmington, N.C., Judith (Alan) Forman of Uniontown and Kristine Kinder of Wickford, R.I.; five grandchildren, Kiley Shafer, Karissa Stanish, Jonathan Forman and Abby and Sarah Kinder; three great-granddaughters, Briley, Bristol and Brinley Shafer; two sisters, Maxine (Martin) Kisla of Burgettstown and Rendell (Dale) Brown of Avella; five brothers, Jeffrey (the late Barbara) of Meadville, Brady (Paulette) of Avella, Boley (Diana) of Burgettstown, Mel (Betty Jo) of Avella and Larry (Barbara) of Avella; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a brother, Dale Albert Mermon, who died in infancy.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, in Taucher Funeral Home, 23 Erie Mine Road, Burgettstown, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, with the Rev. Jim Sands officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, with full military rites accorded by Avella American Legion.
