Shirley Baxter, 80, of 319 Wellness Way, South Strabane Township, formerly of Christy Road, Eighty Four, died Thursday, May 2, 2013, in Strabane Woods Assistant Living.

She was born July 31, 1932, in Manifold, a daughter of John and Anna Hudak Paraska.

Mrs. Baxter graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1950 and Canonsburg School of Nursing in 1953. She also attended the University of Pittsburgh and Maryland University.

She worked as a registered nurse at Canonsburg, Washington, Presbyterian and Mercy hospitals. Her last employment before retiring was Western State Hospital for 24 years and inspecting nursing homes for five years as a health quality examiner.

Mrs. Baxter was a member of Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church, Pennsylvania Nurses Association and Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees.

On November 11, 1954, she married Nicholas Baxter in West Alexander Methodist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two daughters, Debra Huseman (Jeffrey Sr.) of Houston and Carol Stage (John) of Ormand Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Huseman Jr. (Teresa), Leah, Nicholas and Erika Stage; and a great-granddaughter, Shelby Huseman.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Sollon Funeral Home Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 6, with the Rev. Douglas Beltzner of Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg. Family suggests memorials be made to Washington Area Humane Society, 1527 Route 136, Eighty Four, PA 15330.

E. Alan Cononge, 52, of Canonsburg, died unexpectedly Friday, May 3, 2013.

He was born August 5, 1960, in Canonsburg, a son of Donna Hackenson Dague (Jim) of Bentleyville and Edmond Cononge (Nancy) of Canonsburg.

Mr. Cononge was a 1978 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School.

He loved his birds, animals of all kinds, sports, weight lifting and cars.

On August 23, 2003, he married Susan Buterbaugh, who survives.

Surviving, in addition to his wife and parents, are a daughter, Anna Cononge of Cummings, Ga.; a brother, Randy Cononge (Tracy) of McDonough, Ga.; two sisters, Kimberly Bird (Jason) of Washington and Jayme Palla (Ed) of Ellsworth; two nephews, Perry and Donovan Cononge; and two nieces, Jennifer Bird and Carly Palla.

Friends will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, with William Volpe officiating.

A memorial Mass for Dr. Andrew Fabian, who died February 17, 2013, in Jupiter, Fla., will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, in St. Benedict the Abbot Church, McMurray.

Kathleen N. Hunter, 33, of Waynesburg, died unexpectedly Friday, May 3, 2013, in UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh.

A memorial Mass for Isabel “Banks” Petrone, 96, of Sin City Center, Fla., who passed away peacefully October 4, 2012, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Claysville. Family and friends are invited for lunch in the church banquet room immediately following the Mass.

James A. Riggen, 86, of Carmichaels, died unexpectedly Saturday, May 4, 2013, in the Southwest Regional Medical Center emergency room, Waynesburg.

Clifton D. Smigiel, 54, of Eighty Four, died Saturday, May 4, 2013, in Greenery Specialty Care, Canonsburg.

He was born April 22, 1959, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Frank and Anna Wagner Smigiel.

Mr. Smigiel was a self-employed carpenter and, with his brother-in-law Bill Wardle, owned Phase I Builders in Eighty Four.

He was a member of SNPJ Lodge 138 in Strabane.

Mr. Smigiel enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and camping.

Most important, was the time he spent with his wife, Cindy Wardle Smigiel, whom he married June 29, 1991, and his sons, Jesse and Jeremy, who survive.

Also surviving are two sisters, Marian Kereki (Joe) of Houston and Margaret Smigiel of Wilmington, N.C.; mother and father-in-law Karen and Ron Wardle; a brother-in-law, Jim Miller of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a sister, Louise Smigiel Miller.
