James H. Bowman
James H. “Butch” Bowman, 62, of Canonsburg, died unexpectedly in his home Thursday, May 9, 2013.
He was born May 3, 1951, in Canonsburg, a son of Laura Bowman and Melvin Wilson Sr.
Mr. Bowman attended Canon-McMillan High School and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Canonsburg.
He worked at Gordon’s Office Equipment & Furniture for many years before joining the maintenance crew at West Gate Village Apartments, Pittsburgh. He worked for 12 years as an associate in the plumbing department at Home Depot in Washington, where he had many customers ask for him by name.
Mr. Bowman enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and the great outdoors, but most important was the time he spent with his family.
On May 3, 1978, he married Rita Brooks, who passed away December 24, 2009.
Surviving are three daughters, Alicia Long (Benjamin) of Canonsburg, Tina Marie Tyree (Thomas) of Frederick, Md., and Jamie Bowman of Atlanta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Alexis, Paris, Joshua and Maxwell Long, Caleb Brooks and Cameron Tyree; five sisters, Dianna Bowman (Gerald Sims) of Houston, Laura “Tootie” Brown (David) and Traci Johnson of Pittsburgh, Crissy Egerton (Eddie) of Chesterfield, Va., and Wanda Thomas of Youngstown, Ohio; two brothers, Melvin Wilson Jr. of Pittsburgh and Perry Wilson (Romi) of McKees Rocks; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Deceased are a daughter, Fontella Bowman, and a sister, Etta Bowman.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston.
