Mariano LaBella

Mariano LaBella, 88, passed away at 9:40 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, in Golden Living Center of South Hills.

He was born May 30, 1924, in Mt. Pleasant, a son of the late Michael and Mary Morrow LaBella.

Mr. LaBella served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II with the 433rd troop carrier group and received four Bronze Stars. Prior to his retirement in 1980, he had been employed as a supervisor in the paint department of the former McGraw Edison Power Systems in Canonsburg.

He was an active member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Meadow Lands, where he had been an usher for 60 years.

Mr. LaBella was a member of American Legion Post 902 in Houston.

He was an avid hunter and vegetable gardener.

On April 28, 1948, he married Rosella E. Porcaro Oliver, who passed away September 8, 2008.

Surviving are two sons, Rock (Barbara) LaBella of Orange Park, Fla., and Rayman Gene LaBella of Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Maria Theresa LaBella of Plummer, Idaho; a brother, Michael LaBella of Spokane, Wash.; three grandchildren, Raymond Brittain LaBella, Esq., Jason Laffredi and Crystal Gale Whalen; seven great-grandchildren, Rosella and Donn Mariano LaBella, Alaina, Antonio, Angelo, Aljia and Ahynka Laffrei; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a sister; a brother; and a grandson, Justin Laffredi, who passed away January 15, 2009.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow Lands, with the Rev. Carman D’Amico, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
