James D. Delaney

James D. Delaney, 72, of Washington, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington.

He was born August 17, 1940, in Washington, a son of the late Donley and Florence Kintigh Delaney.

Mr. Delaney was a 1958 graduate of Washington High School. He attended Washington & Jefferson College and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1972.

He went on to be a sales proposal engineer for Lectromelt, later Electric Metallurgy Co. He was one of the first tellers ever hired by The Meadows racetrack and also was a tax consultant for H&R Block.

Mr. Delaney was a member of the 1955 Pony World Series championship team. He also was an Eagle Scout.

On October 8, 1960, he married MaryEllen Alley, who died September 4, 2012.

Surviving are two sons, James “Scott” (Anne Cashman) Delaney of Weirton, W.Va., and Master Sgt. Sean (Kim) Delaney of Washington; two daughters, Kim (Dan) Hoffman and Michelle (Tony) Ellis, both of Washington; and 10 grandchildren, Bret and Nikki Hoffman, Brittany, Taylor and Haylea Ellis, Ashtan Farmer and Megan, Nathan, Jillian and Shannan Delaney.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, with Pastor Linda Mankey officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Donnell House, c/o Hospice of Washington Health System, 10 Leet Street, Washington, PA 15301.
