Gerald B. Johnson Sr.
Canton Township planner served in U.S. Army
Gerald B. Johnson Sr., 84, of Washington, died October 10, 2013, in Washington Hospital.
He was born June 12, 1929, in Washington, a son of H. Michael and Dora M. Hunt Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was employed by Findlay Refractory for 25 years, where he was recording secretary for the union. He had previously worked at Hazel Atlas, Continental Can and Brockway Glass for 12 years.
He served for two years in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 945 in Wormleysburg.
Mr. Johnson was a member of Friendship Community Church in Washington.
He served on Canton Township Pennsylvania Planning Commission for 10 years.
On August 16, 1953, in Muncey, he married Doris McAfee Powell, who preceded him in death March 17, 2000.
Surviving are a son, Gerald B. Johnson Jr. of Washington; two stepdaughters, Ellen Robison and Sandra Wilkinson, both of Washington; three grandchildren, Michael, Amy and Nathan Johnson; five great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased are brothers Duane C. Johnson and Johnny Johnson; sister Opel Rumiser; and a brother and a sister in infancy.
Friends will be received from noon to 1 p.m., the time of service, Wednesday, November 13, in Dale D. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 1290 Jefferson Avenue, Washington, with the Rev. Paul R. Gray of Wesleyan Church officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Full military rites will be accorded by the U.S. Army and American Legion Post 902.
