Beloved wife, loving mother

Janice M. Arden, born June 8, 1938, of Finleyville, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2013.

She was the beloved wife of Elwin Norman Arden for 35 years; loving mother of Cynthia DeVos-Klingensmith (Jim), Cheryl DeVos-Quail (Tim) and Janice DeVos-Crawford (John); grandmother of six; great-grandmother “GG” of eight; daughter of the late Louis and Myrtle Jones; and sister of 11, preceded in death by six.

Mrs. Arden began life by being totally club-footed and in casts until the age of 11. She rose above her challenge and was the lead singer of The Roulettes in South Carolina.

She returned home to family in Canonsburg.

Mrs. Arden had worked numerous years for optometrists in Canonsburg and Carnegie. She was president of the Parent Teacher Association in Chartiers Valley School District. She worked as chief security officer for Koppers Corp. in Bridgeville. She retired as the owner of Jan’s Contracting Co., where she and husband Norm worked very diligently to make a success.

She and her husband enjoyed traveling to the Amish Country, but her favorite place was Myrtle Beach, S.C. She loved sewing, gardening and shopping.

Canon-McMillan cook was St. Patrick Church member

Mary C. Binder, 93, of Greensburg, formerly of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully at 12:35 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013, in her home, with her loving family by her side.

She was born June 15, 1920, in Bridgeville, a daughter of the late Edoardo and Teresa Valenzano Andreone.

Mrs. Binder lived most of her life in Canonsburg and the past eight years in Greensburg.

She was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers and Guild.

Prior to her retirement, she had been employed for many years as a cook for the dietary department of Canon-McMillan School District.

Mrs. Binder had been a member of SNPJ Lodge 138 in Strabane, ladies auxiliaries of American Legion Post 902 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 and Canonsburg Senior Citizens.

She enjoyed dancing, walking and bingo, among many other games. She also enjoyed gardening and building puzzles.

On November 29, 1947, she married Robert C. Binder, who passed away September 2, 1982.

Surviving are two daughters, Marie (Jeff) Taylor of Sierra Madre, Calif., and Linda (David) Hauck of Irwin; two grandchildren, Marie (Sam) Wilson and Paul (Jill) Hauck; a stepgranddaughter, Laura Taylor; a brother, Gus (Betty) Andreone of Sarasota, Fla.; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a daughter, Patricia Ann Binder, who passed away November 6, 1991; three brothers, Adolf, Robert and Joseph Andreone; and three sisters, Carlotta Valentino, Rose Emling and Rosina Andreone, who died as a child.

Friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m Tuesday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Member of Church of Christ

Curtis Whitfield Clemens, 88, of Washington, died Monday, November 11, 2013, following a short illness.

He was born January 19, 1925, in Taylorstown, a son of Archie W. Clemens and Blanche M. Dinch Clemens. 

Mr. Clemens was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II, where he received an American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Distinguished Unit Badge and Victory Medal.

He was a member of Church of Christ, where he was a former deacon. He also was a member Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 22, Arms Club, Washington Masonic Lodge 164 F&AM and Coudersport Consistory, Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion and North Franklin Volunteer Fire Department and a past member of auxiliary police.

On December 22, 1947, he married Ellen Louise White, who died November 27, 2001.

Surviving are a son, Thomas G. (Heather) Clemens of Washington; three daughters, Carol (James) Manning of Washington, Debra (Wade) Cornman of Newburgh, N.Y. and Hope (Chuck) Thomas of Avella; a brother, Gene O. (Nancy) Clemens of Canonsburg; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Deceased are three sisters, Dorris A. Rogers, Faye Romaine Pierce and Elsie Clemens; and an infant son, Ronny.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Centria supervisor played guitar in local bands

Claude Michael Corrick Jr., 44, of Washington, died unexpectedly Sunday, November 10, 2013, in his home.

He was born February 25, 1969, in Washington, a son of Claude M. Corrick Sr. and the late Mary Ann Bell Corrick.

Mr. Corrick was a graduate of Dubois High School and was production supervisor at Centria in Ambridge.

He played guitar and was formerly in several local bands. He was a huge Steelers fan, who enjoyed cooking, loved his dog, Emma, and liked to play cornhole.

On March 6, 2004, he married Erica Lynn Riser, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Aden M. Corrick, at home; a daughter, Chelsey Corrick of Bentleyville; in-laws Roger and Barbara Riser of Meadow Lands; sister-in-law Amanda Scholato; nephew Evan Scholato; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., the time of service, Wednesday, November 16, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.

Steelworker was U.S. Army veteran

William L. “Red” Eiler, 83, of McDonald, died Sunday, November 10, 2013, in St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon.

He was born October 25, 1930, in Aliquippa, a son of the late William A. and Grace Pyle Eiler.

Mr. Eiler was a retired steelworker with Shenango Inc.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Mr. Eiler enjoyed the outdoors, watching football and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Barbara (Frizzie) Eiler; daughters Karen (Bill) Lueders of Florida, Jeanne (Gerald) Bonifate of Virginia and Patricia (Dan) Greenawalt of Sturgeon; grandchildren Lacey (Mike) Seigler, Larissa and Drake Bonifa and William Greenawalt; a great-grandson, Cameron Seigler; and a brother, Robert (Carol) Eiler of Pittsburgh.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Frederick Eiler.

Gastonville man attended Ringgold High School

Brandon James Keiffer, 27, of Gastonville, died Sunday, November 10, 2013, in his home.

He was born February 21, 1986, in Upper St. Clair, a son of Wendy Bowers Keiffer of Gastonville.

Mr. Keiffer attended Ringgold High School and was a member of Finleyville Moose Lodge 613.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a sister, Brittany Keiffer of Finleyville; a niece, Brynn Cushey; maternal grandmother Verna Stilley of Bentleyville; and two uncles, Jeffrey Bowers of Bentleyville and Faron Bowers of Finleyville.

An uncle, William Bowers, is deceased.

Nottingham Township resident

William “Tom” Lenard, 76, of Nottingham Township, formerly of Bethel Park, passed away peacefully Monday, November 11, 2013, with his family by his side.

He was born January 18, 1937, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Pauline Pollak Slaterback.

Mr. Lenard was the beloved husband of 50 years to Sharon Russell Lenard; cherished father of Tammy (Rick) Dohanich of Cecil and Lisa Lenard of Nottingham Township; loving grandfather of Hayley and Michael Dohanich; dear brother-in-law of Terry (Sue) Russell; and aunt of Michele Russell.

He enjoyed golf and was a longtime member of Jugoslav Club in Bethel Park and Rover Boys Golf League. He enjoyed taking walks at Mingo Creek County Park and Peters Lake Park with his wife and dog, Isabella. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and will be dearly missed.

Mary A. Medlick, 83, of Waynesburg, died Monday, November 11, 2013, in Uniontown Hospital.

She was born May 30, 1930, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Charles L. and Pearle Weimer Bosworth.

She graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1948 and also from Penn Commercial.

Mrs. Medlick was a retired teller in the Waynesburg office of First National Bank and Trust Co. of Washington.

She resided most of her life in Waynesburg and was a former resident of Mather and Rogersville.

Mrs. Medlick was a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church in Waynesburg and a life member of Beta Sigma Phi.

Surviving are two brothers, James D. Bosworth of Waynesburg and J. Paul Bosworth of Brownsville; nine nephews; two nieces; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Deceased are a brother, Charles Bosworth Jr.; and a sister, Sarah Lou Bosworth, who died in infancy.

Ironworker enjoyed hunting

Edward E. “Ted” Snyder III, 45, of Cecil, passed away from a monthlong battle with cancer, Sunday, November 10, 2013, in UPMC-Shadyside hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born August 17, 1968, in Washington Hospital, a son of Edward E. “Ted” Jr. and Barbara J. Fischer Snyder of Houston, who survive.

Mr. Snyder belonged to Ironworker Local 3 of Pittsburgh and was an ironworker for AC Dellovade Inc.

He was raised in Houston and, for the last 12 years, lived in Cecil, where he attended Mass with his family at St. Mary’s Church.

Mr. Snyder was an avid hunter, enjoyed going to his daughters’ sporting events but mostly spending time with his family.

On May 29, 1993, he married his beloved wife, Shelly Uram, who survives.

Also surviving, in addition to his parents and wife, are three daughters, Brittney, Sarah and Emily Snyder, all at home; a brother, Anthony (Lori) Snyder of Pittsburgh; a brother-in-law, Fred Rudd of New York, N.Y.; father and mother-in-law, George and Earlene Uram of Canonsburg; a sister-in-law, Jodi (Joseph) Stumpf of Canonsburg; a brother-in-law, George (Katie) Uram of Cecil; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Deceased are a sister, Jean Rudd, and maternal and paternal grandparents.

First woman elder in Cross Creek Presbyterian Church

Margaret M. Townsend, 97, of Washington, died Sunday, November 10, 2013, in Hawthorne Woods Assisted Living, South Strabane Township.

She was born December 7, 1915, in Washington, a daughter of the late H. Wylie and Mary Baker McClenathan.

Mrs. Townsend was a graduate of Trinity High School and Penn Commercial and was employed as a legal secretary.

She was a member of Cross Creek Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and held the distinction of serving as its first woman elder.

On July 2, 1939, in Washington, she married James Donley Townsend, who died July 24, 1998.

Surviving are a son, Robert D. (Rupa) Townsend of Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, Fred “Sam” (Jo Ann) McClenathan of Washington and Frank (June) McClenathan of Prosperity; a sister, Mary Louise Wall of Washington; three grandchildren, James D. (Rhonda) Ragan, Joseph H. Ragan and Neil B. Townsend; a son-in-law, James Ragan; two stepgreat-granddaughters, Jessica Newman and Payton Wood; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a daughter, Margaret L. Ragan; two brothers, James R. McClenathan and William E. McClenathan; and three sisters, Ellen Wilson, Sara Cale and Jean Day.

Loving homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother

Jacquelyn M. Zanolli, 68, of North Wales, died Thursday, November 7, 2013, in her home, with her family by her side.

She was the beloved wife of Larry J. Zanolli for 47 years.

Mrs. Zanolli was born in Washington November 29, 1944, a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Passalacqua Gerolium.

She was a graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1962, and attended Point Park College.

Mrs. Zanolli was employed as a customer relations representative for TeleRx for 12 years. She was also a loving homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend. She enjoyed shopping, antiquing and spending time at the ocean. She loved spending the holidays with her family.

In addition to her husband, surviving are three sons, James Zanolli and wife Annie of Lansdale, Michael Zanolli and wife Heidi of Ambler and Anthony Zanolli and wife Kelly of North Wales; a grandson, Logan Zanolli; two brothers, Charles Gerolium of Rotonda West, Fla., and James Gerolium of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased is her stepfather, Joseph Szopo.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Emil J. Ciavarelli Family Funeral Homes, 951 East Butler Pike, Ambler. Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 16, in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 259 Forest Avenue, Ambler.
