Irene C. Lucas, 85, of Ambridge, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 21, 1928, in Avella, a daughter of the late Andrew and Ann Hnat Curtis.

Mrs. Lucas was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Ambridge, where she was a member of St. Mary’s Bethany Ministry and St. Mary’s Rosary Society. A former CCD teacher, she was also a member of Blue Army and Padre Pio Prayer Group.

She enjoyed craftwork, sewing and decorating.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Dr. Michael Lucas; four brothers, Andrew, John, Charles and Joy Curtis; and two sisters, Mary Dolinar and Anne Richardson.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Andrew (Sharon) Lucas; daughter, Irene E. Lucas; two sons, Edward and Daniel Lucas; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Helen E. Smithson.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in John Syka Funeral Home Inc., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge. A panachyda service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday, November 25, followed by a Divine Liturgy for the repose of her soul at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church with Father David Bosnich officiating. Entombment will follow in Sylvania Hills Mausoleum on what would have been their 63rd wedding anniversary. The happy couple will finally be together again, dancing in the clouds. A parastas service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home and members of St. Mary’s Rosary Society will pray a memorial rosary at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
