Cook enjoyed family, friends and fishing
Fred Lee Andy, 57, of Washington, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 21, 2013, in his home.
Born January 11, 1956, he was a son of Wynette and the late Fred Andy.
He was the beloved husband of 37 years to Sherry Andy; loving father of Joshua (Brittany) Andy and Jennifer (William) King; brother of Tim (Carol) Andy and Jobeth (Mark) Kaplan; grandfather of Grayson Andy and Olivia King; and uncle of Elizabeth, Jon and Christopher Kaplan, Clark and Elaine Sambuco, Tim (Karli) Andy and the late Corey Andy.
Mr. Andy loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed fishing and trips to Canada and the Outer Banks with his friends and family. Mr. Andy was a great cook who especially loved baking Christmas cookies.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

William Wilson Baker, 87, of Beallsville, passed away Friday, November 22, 2013, in his home.

Verna Brashear, 93, of Carmichaels, died at 10:10 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

McGraw Edison machinist served during Korean War
George W. Clark, 81, of Bridgeville, died Thursday, November 21, 2013.
He was the beloved husband of Regina “Shirley” Clark for 59 years; loving father of Randy (Barb) Clark, Sue (John) Van Der Lee, Tammy (Chuck) Gamble, Sharon Clark, Danny Clark, Marcia (Tim) Beard and Greg (Darlene) Clark; son of the late Victor and Ida Clark; brother of Jim Clark, Norma Kotarba and the late Dolores Smith; cherished grandfather of 13; and great-grandfather of three.
Mr. Clark served proudly with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked as a machinist for 45 years at McGraw Edison.

World War II veteran loved bowling
Lee Edward Dean, 90, of Washington, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington.
He was born August 18, 1923, in Marion County, S.C.
Mr. Dean served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church, where he served on the deacon board and was senior choir director, member of the mass choir and a charter member of the prayer band. He was also a member of American Legion Post 175 and a life member of Elks Lodge Keystone 6, Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World.
Mr. Dean was a retired foreman, after 34 years of employment with Bethlehem Mines Corp., Mine 58 in Marianna.
He loved bowling and was a member of both the Sunday Night Pin Busters and Lucky Six bowling leagues.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 65 years, Martha Rose Dean of Washington; his children, Lee Annett Prysock of Houston, James E. Dean Sr. (Bev) of Strabane, Charles Harris (Mary) of Brownsville and the Rev. Maurice Myers of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren David L. Dean of Carnegie, Natasha C. Thrasher (Robert) of Pittsburgh, Dietta Spinks of Washington, Kimberly A. Prysock-Winters of Houston, Camille Dean of Washington, James E. Dean Jr. of Washington, Amy Bricker of Brownsville and Michael North of Strabane; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Deceased are his parents, Howard R. Dantzler and Kathryn Foxworth Dantzler.
Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, Monday, November 25, in Nazareth Baptist Church, 123 North Lincoln Street, Washington. Interment will follow immediately after in Washington Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 175, Washington.

Family was the focus of her life
Faye Hess, 71, of Crescent Township, passed into eternal peace Thursday, November 21, 2013, in Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver.
Surviving are six children, John Madden of Monaca, Roger Madden of Crescent Township, Loretta Andrews of Aliquippa, Blaine Hess Jr. of Hookstown, Darrell Hess of Keller, Texas, and Cheryl O’Brien of Crescent Township; grandchildren J.R. Madden, Bryan Madden, Kyonna Madden Castelucci, Michael Madden, Jeremiah Madden, Jenifer Madden, Mark Andrews, Douglas Andrews, Jill Andrews, Sadie Andrews, Matthew Andrews, Adam Hess, Tiffanie Hess Lightener, Hannah, Andrew, Logan, Olivia, Allison and Ethan Hess, Jacob O’Brien and Zoei O’Brien; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James McGuirer of Prosperity and Riley Coffield of Washington; and a sister, Ellen Drosdick of McDonald.
Deceased are her husband, Blaine Hess Sr.; her parents, John and Belva Coffield; a brother, Robert McGuirer; two sisters, Kathryn Bell and Naomi Parker; and a granddaughter, Jessica Morehouse.
Mrs. Hess was a compassionate and loving soul for whom family was the center focus of her life. Her love unconditionally enfolded and supported them in all ways and in all things. She was a light to all and touched the hearts of all who knew her.
A memorial visitation and dinner for family and friends will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, November 24, in Raccoon Township fire hall, Patterson Road. Arrangements are by Copeland’s Funeral Home.
Devoted to family, education
Orlando M. Jardini, 85, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Thursday, November 21, 2013.
A son of the late Paschaol (Patsy) Jardini and Michelina Mancini Jardini of Carrick, and brother of the late Josephine C. (Frank C.) Hasenkopf, he was born October 11, 1928, in Pittsburgh, and spent most of his life in Brentwood. Mr. Jardini moved to Meadow Lands three years ago.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 51 years, Linda Price Jardini; and three children, David (Dawn Shober) of Meadow Lands, Nancy Jardini (Morris J. Panner) of Chevy Chase, Md., and Michele Jardini (Sean) Gannon of Hermosa Beach, Calif. His memory will be cherished by 10 grandchildren, Patrick David Jardini of Houston, Jacquelyn Mariana (JJ) Jardini, Catherine Price (Rinnie) Jardini, Grazia Linda (Gracie) of Meadow Lands, Michelina (Mikey) Jardini Panner, David Jardini Panner, Josephine (Joey) Jardini Panner, Martine (Nini) Jardini Panner of Chevy Chase, Orlando Jacob (Jake) Gannon and Eleanor (Elle) Louise Gannon of Hermosa Beach; and a great-grandson, Ethan Patrick Jardini of Navarre, Fla. He is also survived by his brother, John E. (Teresa Gallo) Jardini of Carrick and deeply loved nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his special friends, the Artmans of Norman, Okla., the Kuchta family of Baldwin and the Larragoite family of Annapolis, Md., along with many dear cousins and relatives in Brazil.
His life was devoted to his family and to education. After graduating from Brentwood High School in 1946, Mr. Jardini entered the family masonry business until serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he became the first member of his extended family to attend college, earning a bachelor of arts (1956), a master of letters (1957) and doctorate in Spanish (1967) from the University of Pittsburgh. He began his teaching career at Thomas Jefferson High School in 1956, leaving that school to continue his graduate studies in 1963. He was a teaching fellow (1963-64) and Mellon fellow (1964-65) at the University of Pittsburgh, instructor and assistant professor at Carnegie Mellon University (1965-68) and associate professor and professor at Chatham College (1970-1994). Mr. Jardini retired from Chatham College as professor emeritus in 1994. His teaching career also included a long association with the University of Oklahoma, including summer institutes beginning in 1960 and programs at the cultural studies center in Colima, Mexico, from 1967 to 1993.
He was a lifelong resident of Brentwood, member of Brentwood School Board (1971-1995), co-founder of Brentwood High School Hall of Fame and an officer of Brentwood High School Alumni Association since its founding. Mr. Jardini was an inductee of Brentwood Hall of Fame. He also served Mon Valley School for Exceptional Children and Steel Center Area Vocational Technical School as a board member for 22 years, as well as Carriage House Children’s School, Squirrel Hill, for 18 years. Upon his retirement in 1994, he and his beloved wife, Linda, enjoyed many years of travel throughout the world.
Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, November 23, in John F. Slater Funeral Home Inc., 412-881-4100, 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood. At 6:30 p.m., friends are asked to gather at South Hills Country Club, Whitehall, for a memorial celebration reception and dinner. Wheeling, W.Va., resident
Andrew Reck, 38, of Wheeling, W.Va., died Thursday, November 21, 2013.
He was a 1994 graduate of Wheeling Park High School.
Mr. Reck was a celebrated athlete and a best friend to many who “never met a stranger.”
Surviving is his fiancée, Amber Conrad. Surviving family members include his mother, Cathy Reck; a brother, Mike Reck; a sister, Amy (Chris) Mizer; nieces Abby and Emma; Aunt Jo Reilly; Aunt Pat and Uncle Bryce Hatch; and Sue and Joe Deegan and Jim and Ginny Hatch and their families.
Deceased are his grandparents, Mary and James Reilly.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 24, in Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, W.Va. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
Canonsburg resident was carpenter, cabinet maker
John Tomasevich, 72, of Canonsburg, formerly of North Huntingdon, passed away unexpectedly at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013, in Canonsburg Hospital.
He was born February 9, 1941, in Yugoslavia.
Mr. Tomasevich was a self-employed carpenter and cabinet maker. He lived most of his life in the North Huntingdon area and the past three years in Canonsburg.
Surviving are a daughter, Laura (Dr. Michael Leonard) Tomasevich of Canonsburg; two sons, Michael Tomasevich of Gulfport, Miss., and James Tomasevich of Washington state; a grandson, Seth Tomasevich; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the last of his immediate family.

34 years in education
Mildred Marsteller Weir, 92, of Bentleyville, died Thursday afternoon, November 21, 2013, in her home.
She was born September 28, 1921, in Leckrone, a daughter of George Fry and Edna Hails Marsteller.
She was a 1939 graduate of Bentleyville High School.
Mrs. Weir was a 1943 graduate of Indiana State Teachers College, now Indiana University of Pennsylvania, with a major in home economics. Her teaching career spanned 34 years in Bentleyville, California and Fallowfield Township schools and Charleroi Area High School.
She was very active in community and civic activities, serving as regent of Daughters of American Pioneers and president of Pioneer Club.
Mrs. Weir was a charter member of Bentleyville Lioness Club and served as president and secretary. In 1994, she also became a member of Bentleyville Lions Club. She received the Melvin Jones Fellowship in 1994, the highest award in Lionism, and the Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award in Lionism. During her time in Lionism, she served offices in the local clubs and on the district level. She was currently a member of Charleroi Lions Club.
She was a member of Bentworth Civic Organization and served three years as president. She held life membership with Washington County Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association and National Education Association.
Mrs. Weir joined Bentleyville United Methodist Church in 1947, where she was a Sunday school teacher and department superintendent and served on many boards and commissions. At the time of her death, she was active at Belle Vernon United Methodist Church.
On June 18, 1946, she married Vaughn Weir, who died June 22, 2004. They were married for 58 years.
For 20 years, the couple decorated Main Street, Bentleyville, with seasonal floral arrangements.
Surviving are a son, Joel Keith Weir of Bentleyville; a daughter, Joyce W. Bateman (Michael) of Stuart’s Draft, Va., and their children, Michelle Eyler (Rob) and Teresa Remmenga (Mark); great-granddaughters Megan and Sarah Eyler and Elisabeth Remmenga; brother Boyd Marsteller of Bentleyville; sister Maxine Kelley of Largo, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are sisters Thelma Morris and Ruth Sprague.
