1929 – 2013
Ruth E. Ullom, 84, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away September 16, 2013, in the Richard Neubauer, M.D., and John Hughes Hospice Center of Maple Knoll Village, Cincinnati.
She was born August 7, 1929, in Washington, a daughter of the late Alma D. and K. John Ullom Sr.
Miss Ullom worked as a nurse in the Washington, D.C., area for many years. In 1976, she helped start the Madison Center Adult Day Center, now known as the Walter Reed Adult Day Health Care Center, in Arlington, Va., one of the first adult day care centers in the country, serving as executive director for 20 years. In the mid-90s, she retired to her beloved lake house at Lake Monticello in Charlottesville, Va. She moved to Cincinnati in 2002.
She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Wyoming, Ohio.
Miss Ullom most enjoyed time with family and friends, laughter, honesty, conversation and unassumingly living her faith by generously volunteering her time and talent to others.
Surviving are a sister, Shirley U. Filcik of Cincinnati; a brother, K. John Ullom Jr. (Virginia) of Washington; a nephew, Jeffrey C. Filcik (Karen) of Louisville, Ky.; a niece, Sharon F. Chalmers (David) of Cincinnati; great-nieces and nephews Kate Brockman (Mike), Samantha and Andy Filcik and Adam, Audra and Parker Chalmers; and many friends and relatives.
She chose cremation. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Saturday, October 5, in Friendship United Methodist Church, 1025 Springfield Pike, Wyoming, OH 45215. She will be interred in North Ten Mile Baptist Church, Amity.
In lieu of flowers, Miss Ullom and family requests donations be made to Salvation Army, SW Ohio-NE Kentucky Division, 114 East Central Parkway, Cincinnati, OH 45202, or Friendship United Methodist Church.
