Mary Ellen Lewis Howes, 75, of (Deemston) Fredericktown, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 2, 2013, in UPMC-Shadyside hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born May 4, 1938, a daughter of the late William M. and Elsie May Bane Lewis.
Mrs. Howes was a graduate of Jefferson High School, Class of 1956.
On March 21, 1958, she married Donald Lee Howes Sr., who passed away July 3, 1981. Together, they had six children, Donald Lee, William, Brenda, Donna, Georgetta and Samantha.
Mrs. Howes was employed for many years as a psychiatric aide in Mayview State Hospital, Bridgeville, a position which she held until her retirement in 1996.
She loved family and holidays. Her greatest pleasure was being with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are sons, Donald Lee (Denise) Howes, Hiller and William (Nora) Howes, Clarksville; daughters, Brenda (Michael) Zangla, Marianna, Donna (Joseph) Larkin, Jefferson, Georgetta (Keith) Stotka, Rices Landing and Samantha (Jim) Howes, Millsboro; brothers, George R. Lewis and James D. (Carol) Lewis; sisters, Judy A. Lightner and Kathy (Butch) Conley; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry Jo, William and Thomas Lewis.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., the time of service, Saturday, October 5, in Frank Burkus Funeral Home, 26 Mill Street, Millsboro PA 15348, 724-377-2400. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery.
