Co-owner of Strimel Brothers Homes

Norman F. Strimel, 91, of Chartiers Township, died Thursday, October 3, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington, surrounded by his family.

He was born August 5, 1922, in Cecil, a son of Adlin Joseph and Marie DeBruxelles Strimel.

Mr. Strimel served with the U.S. Army Engineers in the Philippines during World War II.

He and his brothers started Strimel Brothers Homes, building custom homes in the area, and Strimel Apartments.

Mr. Strimel enjoyed gardening, bowling, golfing, fishing, traveling and spending several winters in Bonita Springs, Fla.

He married Evelyn Yarkosky November 27, 1947 and she died May 3, 1992. He then married Norma Jean McCartney Mullins August 27, 1994, and she survives.

Surviving, in addition to his wife are, a daughter, Linda Metts (Tony McMurray) of Ft. Myers, Fla.; a son, Norman J. Strimel (Valerie) of Washington.; four grandchildren, Michelle Herring (Jeffrey), Jamie Mullins (Heath), Norman Strimel (M.J.) and Gregg Strimel (Krista); five great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Emily Herring, Anika Mullins and Lucas and Landon Strimel; a sister, Armelia Beyer of Denham Springs, La.; a brother, Irwin Strimel (Penny) of Houston; four stepchildren, Sharon Anderson (Bill) of Washington, John Mullins Jr. of Avella, Terry Mersino (Bill) of Marshall, Texas, and LuAnn Morris of Cokeburg; seven stepgrandchildren, Dennis Korzinski, David Korzinski (Amy), Stacey Wiley (Brian), Chad Mersino (Debbie), Heath Mersino (Ruth), Clint Mersino (Melaina) and Jessica Morris; and many nieces, nephews and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Deceased are three sisters, Leona Walborn, Mercene Swinamer Kersten and Almaretta Shober; two brothers, Rosier Strimel and Adlin Donald Strimel; and two stepgrandchildren, John Mullins, III and Sheila Korzinski Dugan.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., the time of service, Sunday, October 6, in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342, with the Rev. Clare Jean Haury officiating. Interment will be private. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Donnell House, c/o Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Ave., Washington, PA 15301 or First United Presbyterian Church of Houston, 102 North Main St., Houston, PA 15342.
