John A. Lis
Retired ironworker loved horse racing
John A. Lis, 72, of Avella, died at 2:55 a.m., Saturday, October 5, 2013, in UPMC-Montefiore hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born September 13, 1941, in Washington, a son of the late Mike and Susan Fusarelli Lis.
Mr. Lis was a 1959 graduate of Avella High School.
He was employed as an ironworker, working out of Local 3 of Pittsburgh and retiring in 1982, after becoming disabled from a construction accident.
Mr. Lis was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church of Avella and Ironworkers Local 3 of Pittsburgh.
He loved horse racing, trout fishing and gardening. He was an avid Notre Dame Football fan.
Mr. Lis was a lifelong resident of Avella.
On March 3, 1963, he married Madeline I. Cimarolli, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, John Lis and Kathy Loos of Wheeling, W.Va., and Michael (Vicki) Lis of Beverly Hills, Fla.; a sister, Linda Hanlin of Canonsburg; a brother, Larry (Sandy) Lis of Avella; and many nieces and nephews.
Decesaed, in addition to his parents, is a brother, Michael B. “Squinks” Lis.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 97 Highland Avenue, Avella, with Father Chortos officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Avella.
