November 30, 1921 – October 4, 2013

Hazel Lonich Smolec passed away October 4, 2013.

She was a loving wife and partner to husband Joe Smolec, helping him build a successful auto body business while raising two daughters.

She encouraged her daughters to become independent professionals and taught them to be good mothers to her grandchildren. She was a great cook and made holiday gatherings at her home joyous occasions for family and friends.

Mrs. Smolec was artistic, and enjoyed a variety of arts and crafts from ceramics to the many Halloween costumes she made for her four young grandsons, each one showing the great patience, skill and creativity that characterized all her work, and which earned for her the love and admiration from those she loved most.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Joe; brothers, Alec and Dave; and a sister, Dorothy.

Surviving are two daughters, Janice Smolec, M.D. of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Jo Marie Smolec Olson, Ph.D. (Ted Olson) of San Diego, Calif.; and four grandsons, Aaron and Jay Angotti and Logan and Blade Olson.

Mrs. Smolec led a full and productive life. She would say, “Death is nothing at all; I have only slipped away into the next room.”
