Coal miner for U.S. Steel

Larry D. Freeman, 66, of Sylvan Springs, Ala., passed away Friday, October 4, 2013, in UAB Hospital, Birmingham, Ala.

He was born July 1, 1947, in Brownsville, a son of the late William and Juanita Freeman.

Mr. Freeman was a retired coal miner having worked 30 years for U.S. Steel in Maple Creek and Oak Grove mines.

He was a loving husband, wonderful dad and a great grandpap. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his father, William Freeman; mother Juanita Freeman; and a brother, William Freeman Jr.

On January 5, 1968, he married Brenda L. Moon, who survives.

Also surviving are sons, Jason W. Freeman (Lori) of Moody, Ala., and Larry D. Freeman Jr. (Leona) of Waynesburg; two grandchildren, Jason Skylar Freeman and Brittney L. Freeman; a sister, Star Smalley of Scenery Hill; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., the time of service, Wednesday, October 9, in Peoples Chapel Funeral Home, Ala.
