Army veteran, hunter owned Buck’s Paving
Peter J. “Buck” Hayges Sr., 67, of Vestaburg, died Tuesday, October 8, 2013, in his home.
He was born May 16, 1946, in Vestaburg, a son of the late Louis Sr. and LaVon McGrady Hayges.
Mr. Hayges was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. For his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Rifle Marksmanship Badge and two Letters of Appreciation.
Early in his career, he worked as a coal miner in various area coal mines. He later owned and operated Buck’s Paving for 21 years, until his retirement in 2002.
He was a member of Hanson-Cole American Legion Post 391 in Fredericktown and Disabled Veterans of America.
Mr. Hayges enjoyed hunting and fishing.
On March 5, 1966, he married Nancy Tadej, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Peter J. Hayges Jr. (Jessica) and Louis Hayges, both of Vestaburg; a daughter, Melissa L. Hayges of Washington; six grandchildren, Stephen, Nicole, Ashley, JaVone, Taylor and MacKenzy Hayges; six sisters, Pearl Kelly of Richeyville, LaVon Joanne Six and Martha Paci (Rudy Sr.), both of Vestaburg, Margaret Rebert (Sonny) of Centerville, Linda Koontz (Dave) of Littlestown and Mary Lou Bruce (Wayne) of Millsboro; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a grandson, Peter Anthony Hayges; two brothers, Louis Benjamin and Harold J. Hayges; and two sisters, Elizabeth Bercosky and Helen Eckenrode.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 42 Bank Street at Crawford Road, Fredericktown, where a blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 11, with the Rev. Paul Grunebach officiating. Interment will be in Horn Cemetery, Marianna. Full military rites will be accorded graveside by Hanson-Cole American Legion Post 391, Fredericktown.
